Next week (wed) the Sandwitches are playing, with Peggy Benks, who if I understand this correctly is a performance art/singing thing from Liz Donner? Sounds awesome. There's a picture. That's a real Cabaret look (a very good look).
I you ready for some mediocre food photos? Good! I have been fucking with the settings on my camera and maybe some of these photos will be ok. This is a frisee, celery root, toasted pecan salad. I think raw celery root and toasted pecan is one of the best flavor combos around. I also recently made a grated celery root, roasted pecan, apple salad with a skosh of mayo in the dressing.
More stuff after the jump
New potato boiled in its jacket with tarragon butter.
Market Club breakfast sandwich. Get thee to the Market Club.
This oatmeal sandwich bread is the bomb, and rises relatively quickly. If even one person requests the recipe I will post it.
Here it is warm with butter and EC's homemade strawberry black pepper jam.
Handsome.
Getting ready for the Serge Gainsbourg party.
I invented a drink, I guess I'll call it the Calvin Cooler. Sweet lime juice and gin. Have you ever had a sweet lime? I love them! They've got a really subtle, refreshing flavor. They are the coconut water of the citrus world. I've got to get my hands on more.
Mamey licuado from Lalo's.
And the flor de calabasa quesadilla. This was the bomb, and the al pastor is off the chain delicious.

The Sandwitches are the kinda indie pop band I feared would be too precious for me to like much, but when they played The Hub last year, I was really stoked by them. And I can't wait to see what this Peggy Benks character is all about.
Don't forget the Killgasm/Nunfuck Battle for the crown at On the Y on Friday the 6th with Chronaexus, Azathoth, Fiends of Feast, and Embodied Torment. A night of death/grind cabaret for adults.
Really, you'd probably really dig the Fm Bats - Sensitive Side - Young Mings - Marlene Marlene show happening on Sunday at the Circus, but yeah, you're right Bows has got a lot of great stuff happening these days! It's really exciting to see what they have been able to pull off there in the less than live-all ages live music-friendly environs of downtown Sacramento.
If I'm not show'd out by Sunday, I'll try to make that. FM Bats were decent when I saw 'em.
Mamey licuado? Surprising. I'm not a huge fan of licuados, but mamey sapote (sapotes?) are great plain. I've never seen them for sale anywhere in Sac.
I'd like the bread recipe please. And man, that al pastor at Lalo's is terrific, I now am craving it. Thanks A LOT. What is a sweet lime? I've never even heard of it? I need to investigate.
I'm so pleased to see you use the term 'potato jacket'. I recently dropped this on my lady and she has started a fb poll to find out if I'm just a crazy person who makes words up.
jamattack!
The sandwich had hash browns on it!
And as seen in the picture lots of cheese, pretty good. I would have preferred bacon though.

Anyone notice the new SN&R advertising insert that completely copies MidMo style, layout, font, everything? What a bunch of schmucks.
One way to tell them apart is that MidMo would never claim Pyramid has good food.

Toasted pecans on the salad...did nut prices drop?
Life is good!
re: schmucks.
Somewhere Sigmund Freud is smiling...

So, it's MidMo fans being envious, huh?
The cover design is a plagiarism of zero differences.
The content of that insert vs. the content of MidMo is a world of difference.
Envious? I don't understand what you mean.
Admittedly, my visual memory is not the greatest, but to call the design plagiarism seems a bit of a stretch.
But for argument's sake, say I'm wrong, and the ad is a harry connick jr "homage." So what? Midmo is gone. It's not using the style anymore. Does this trivial thing really need to be sacralized? That's what Freud was talking about, right?

anal stage: take your freud and stick it up your ass.
oral stage: eat shit and die, blueberry!
And this is why, however purposefully tempting the bait that is set out, one should not engage the blueberry troll. It does not lead to a discussion, just further trolling. Someone is not communicating sincere opinions, but is just trying to have power over the conversation.
I know that many of the more sensitive people out there are probably a little upset by all the calumny and nasty language hurled my way on this thread today. Your feelings do you credit (I plagiarized that from Star Wars, BTW), but don't worry about me. I'm still smiling.

Does anybody else think the back and forth between "blueberry" and "anonymous" is actually just one person? I mean, nobody really gives a shit, do they?
biz
Nobody does really, yet what is so fascinating is that they kinda do, but not really, and yet... Every ingroup, even one comprised of the world's more lackadaisical souls, needs to defend its territory, I suppose.
Our interactions are rare and not completely positive, heckasac thread people, but I am grateful for them nonetheless.
