I only met her once, but Rollerderby Zine was a big deal to me as a teen. I only had a couple of them, but it was a glimpse into a strange world that both fascinated and scared me. It was mostly Lisa Carver's writing about her life that freaked me out. It's hard to explain, but I kind of lumped it in my head with G.G. Allin, who would scare me with his talk show appearances. No coincidence that Lisa Carver had a fascination with him, and I believe the first Suckdog show was supposed to be with him, but he canceled? I should check the book for my facts.
This was one of the issues I had, and read and re-read. That's Micah and Cindy on the cover. Scott was supposed to be in this picture, I can't remember why he wasn't. I hope I didn't bum anyone out too much by writing about this.
On a different note, I usually feel squinky about linking to my own stuff, but I wrote up the death of MidMo party for this issue.

I don't remember Cindy Dall, but she may have been one of the many people I saw around but never talked to. A great cover from a great era, kids today just aren't as jaded as us cynical GenX-ers, they see a brutal execution photo like that one and take it so darn seriously.
I got to "work" with Micah on a few recordings. He barely talked at all, but made some amazing stuff come together. We hung out sometimes too. Ditto what Patrone said about his bone-dry sense of humor. I didn't know Cindy well at all.

That's funny, you say the gen-xers are cynical, because I just talked with a woman who does PR and she said she had a meeting with a bunch of marketers about Gen X and Gen Y. She said marketers hate Gen X because we're cynical, hate brands and can't be marketed to. On the other hand, Gen Y is optimistic and like to blend brands into their "personal brand"
given that they're both passed away, that rollerderby pic is outrageously eerie!
