yeah right. Check out http://www.sactowers.com/ and be sure to turn your speakers up to hear the soothing tones of fuckjazz (man that looks dirty when you write it, but somehow it's not as dirty to say).
Holy crap that is awful. Are they really going to do that? Can we stop them? I know someone on the city council. He isn't my council member, but I will be lodging my opinion with him.
that's so funny. i was just about to check out that site yesterday to see what the deal is with all the billboards. if they do build those monstrosities i might have to buy a condo and then sell it a year later to some leg staffer for a profit. maybe we could all make money off of them? but shit that looks like crap. i mean, our sky line seriously does not need anything like that. it looks fine just the way it is.
I'm ambivalent about the Towers and "skyscrapers" in general. When the application came into our office for review and all the planners gathered round, I wasn't all that impressed. They would certainly change the skyline. The biggest issue is the big shadow it will cast on Old Sac during the winter months, and that will be a hot topic when the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) comes out.
I don't think there is enough demand for them to sell even half of the units before they get approval (if they ever get it)... I sure as heck would never want to live in a high rise condo, whether in Sacrmento or NYC or anywhere.
The Council is scheduled to discuss the project on May 10 as an informational item for "review and comment" (no action taken). That might be a good time to put in your 2 cents. Also, the EIR will be out for public review in the next few months.
Hey Erik-that would be great if you could post a little reminder about the meeting when it comes up. I wasn't too pissed about this idea because I figured that it will never happen and at least skyscrapers are a more efficient use of space than sprawling strip malls and stuff like that.
