Vibes are real!

Did anyone watch LCD on Letterman? I was falling asleep so I watched the rest of the current Bergman movie I am battling instead. "Hour of the Wolf" is sooo creepy, yet murky and pretentious. I heard that a tape of the LCD set will be playing in Club Vince on continuous rotation anyway, so I will try to catch it later.

Out Hud got a very nice review in Pitchfork. I like the picture and I like Phyllis' quote, "we're from California, so we totally believe in vibes". You mean there are other states where people don't believe in vibes? But they believe in chakras, right? Everyone knows that chakras are real. Out Hud is supposed to play in Sac at Old I on June 5th (I think). They are playing with Tussle, who, if I remember correctly, suck it.

Tyler was the cutest...he didn't get that much camera time, but when he did he was the cutest.

Also, Hour of the Wolf is tight...it's a little goofy at times, but that scene with the kid on the ocean cliffs is off the hook!

Tyler was pretty cute, but what about Amy Sedaris? She wore her crazy ass ball gown that got into Fashion Police in US Magazine and showed footage of Paris Hilton littering while she was on the Letterman show. She was the best!!! I am anxiously awaiting the Strangers With Candy full length feature....

What other Bergman is good? I rented Hour of the Wolf (when I was in my Woody Allen phase, I heard Allen's "Interiors" was an homage to Bergman) but then Vince bogarted it in his room for two months, claiming, "I want to get stoned and watch it." I find it hard to believe it took Vince two months to get stoned. I sent it back cuz I was anxious to get "Ray" next on my Netflix. uh... I don't think that Fiery Furnaces medley was lame at all. 6. Fanny and Alexander is fantastic. Ebert has an online review in his "great movies" thing and he said that some critics group voted it third best movie ever. I have seen the three hour version but there is like a five or six hour version that I want to see. Also "Scenes from a marriage" is grueling yet rewarding. I don't know, his earlier stuff is too arty and existential for me. I don't get it. Just give me Liv Ullman in color and I'm happy. I wouldn't recommend getting stoned and watching "hour of the wolf" unless you are looking for permanent neurological damage. But that's how Vince parties.

Fanny and Alexander is really good. I also agree with Alice, the 7th Seal is good, and the Virgin Spring is good too. I strongly recommend The Passion of Anna (my fave).

I plan to watch Wild Strawberries soon, I don't know if it's about strawberries, but one of my favorite scenes in the 7th seal features wild strawberries in a bowl of fresh milk....yummmm.

Cries and Whispers will make you sick to your stomach, I think it's as depressing as Interiors (more really), but I liked it in the way that any movie that powerful is amazing.

I don't recommend Persona. If Bergman has a reputation for being pretentious its' because of that movie. I think the rest of his movies are pretty straightforward.

I had this really insane (really) film teacher, John Heckle, whose all-time favorite movie in the world was Persona. We had to watch that movie over and over and for a final we had to write a five page paper about a shot of our choosing. Not a scene, ONE SHOT and five pages. I think I made it to 1 1/2. Crazy man...crazy movie.

  10. I just read in Entertainment Weekly last night that Bergman has made a sequel to "Scenes From a Marriage" with the same cast due out sometime in the summer. Didn't hear if he's directing or just writing.

  11. I just checked IMDB on this one, and besides finding out that he is still alive (exactly 58 years older than yours truly, to the day), the film is called "Saraband" and was filmed for TV in 2003, with Bergman writing and directing.
