Star Trek Con!!!

Here's the schedule for the Star Trek con. this saturday. To be honest, except for the performance of No Kill I: the Next Generation (now with Mike Banana on guitar) this sounds rather weak, but I will be there nonetheless.

Weak? How can you say that? Didn't you see that a local webmaster is going to be there? What about some AD from DS9? This is a total big time event.

I was thinking it would be great to have Dan and Mike, so one could be Data and the other could be Lore. Then they could fight, then hug, then fight some more, then cry.

  8. Hey Jay (or other Beach Boys lovers)
What's your favorite Beach Boys book? I am ordering Ray Davies autobio. on Amazon (for 3 bucks)and I thought maybe I should throw in a Beach Boys book.

I'm no Jay, but the Brian Wilson autobiography is great. But you could probably just check it out from the library. It will only take you a day or two read.

Start with all the back issues of Jar-zine & then proceed to "Big Ol' Tree - The Dennis Story". And you can't go wrong with "I Wrote The Songs" by Bruce Johnson. Also, "Everything You've Ever Wanted To Know About Holland & So Tough" by Fataar & Chaplin is fascinating.

  11. I just got the autobio off Amazon. It was only a coupla bucks. Besides, I owe the UC Davis library 60 bucks. So I'm not welcome there.

The Brian Wilson book is great, but keep in mind he didn't really write it, and claims to have never read it, so you have to take everything with several grains of salt. By pure journalistic standards the best BB book is "The Nearest Faraway Place" by Timothy White (not THE Tim White). It's well researched and does a good job of placing the BB's music in the contexxt of popular culture. If youre just looking for the dirt there is a book called "Heroes and Villians" that can't be beat. I don't remember the author's name though.

I cannot say enough good things about Nick Kent's "The Dark Stuff". He's an old NME reporter who followed rock stars around and then wrote the most fucked up stories he could get out of them. There's a 75-page chapter on Brian Wilson. Also chapters on Guns 'n Roses, the Stone Roses, Prince, Brian Jones, Lou Reed... I didn't believe that page-turners really existed (other than D. Steele, of course) until I read this. It's at Tower for like $16 or you can just borrow it from me.

  15. Can I choose the "borrow it from you" option? I will trade you the Dave Davies bio when it comes.
