How can a day be so crappy by 9:10?
I ate at Chaat Corner last night. Let's just say they spared all expense on the decor. They don't even have the News and Review review posted! It's very drafty, too. But, the food is quite good and so cheap. As everyone else has said the samosa chaat is not to be missed. That was the best thing. The other dishes we tried were good and not too oily but nothing to write home about. I would like to try more of the stuff on the menu. And you can get tons of food for less than ten bucks.
The Sacbee cannot stop talking about that new Mason's complex. You would think they were getting a kickback from the owner or something. I think they have had 4 articles in the last couple of weeks, two of them major. Yesterday a feature on the family that owns it took up most of the front page of the Scene section, with color photos. This one was at least kind of interesting (not like that blathering one I linked to before), because this family has been prominent on the sac business scene for a few generations. I STILL haven't heard anything about what the food tastes like, at either Mason's or Ma Jongs. The Bee needs to try to vary their coverage a bit more. It's sad that they're salivating over these businesses. It's another desperate attempt to make sac appear hip, which we're not.
some dude in the coffee shop downstairs told me that place just looks like a bunch of hicks playing dress up. i thought that was an apt description of the los angeles vibe peeps are trying to bring downtown.
ReplyDeleteI am glad I am not the only one who finds all the coverage on these trendy places a little annoying.
ReplyDeleteno way. i was talking to a friend about it yesterday and he said that another friend had brought it up to him. i think this guy actually wrote a letter to bob sylva complaining about lack of diversity on their coverage of local businesses.
ReplyDeleteDidn't we decide to boycott DMZ?
ReplyDeleteyeah, we are so much cooler than the rest of sacramento
ReplyDeleteNo, just more snarky.
ReplyDelete"Charles C. Boycott seems to have become a household word because of his strong sense of duty to his employer. An Englishman and former British soldier, Boycott was the estate agent of the Earl of Erne in County Mayo, Ireland. The earl was one of the absentee landowners who as a group held most of the land in Ireland. Boycott was chosen in the fall of 1880 to be the test case for a new policy advocated by Charles Parnell, an Irish politician who wanted land reform. Any landlord who would not charge lower rents or any tenant who took over the farm of an evicted tenant would be given the complete cold shoulder by Parnell's supporters. Boycott refused to charge lower rents and ejected his tenants. At this point members of Parnell's Irish Land League stepped in, and Boycott and his family found themselves isolated without servants, farmhands, service in stores, or mail delivery. Boycott's name was quickly adopted as the term for this treatment, not just in English but in other languages such as French, Dutch, German, and Russian."

ReplyDeleteYou mean snarkier.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet he keeps linking himself and his bloggers back to read all this. Classic.
ReplyDeleteNo. You spent days being a raging asshole on your site and now you're mad that everyone doesn't love you? Your self promotion just blew up on your face.
ReplyDeletei think what cooldmz fails to realize is that his blog is intended to be public where heckasac's is more of an online forum for a distinct group of friends who need to talk online and not a public forum.
ReplyDeleteCan I interrupt for a minute to say that this dialectic is really weird for me. It appears that my brother (Oops, I am sorry. But I guess people already know who cooldmz is because of the sac bee article) and an acquaintance (friend? friend of a mutual friend, whatever; I like her alot, anyway) have co-existing weblogs concerned with their hometown. It's mine, too, I guess, although right now I feel like a betraying outsider because I left for so long. And because I have only recently had the pleasure of surfing the internet at work, I am not hip to this blog thing. I must say that from what I have read, heckasac, you are a heckagood writer. I like when I read something, and I can actually hear the person talking. I don't think cooldmz means any offense. I read some of his posts today- because this whole thing got me curious- and the few I saw seemed to be complimentary. I am guessing that the anonymous individual who posted the comment "raging asshole" was refering to comments posted by cooldmz about topics other than heckasac..? I may be wrong. What do I know? I spend most of my day on MySpace sending silly emails to friends who are miles away. Because I can. Because I get paid to do it. Because I am a sucker for pictures and instant mail. In any case, I am not coming to anyone's defense. Y'all commenters can cyber-talk this one to death.
ReplyDeletePeace,
Emily Z.
the only thing good about sac's scene section is sudoko!!!
ReplyDeletehomzee
I say if you're gonna bag on someone on here, sign your damn name or nickname or whatever so it doesn't sound like the whole blog has that opinion. The more people who read this, the more interesting it'll be. It's stupid that someone wouldn't be "welcome" or whatever.
ReplyDeletemiller
I'll gladly and proudly take sides. Anyone who would call CoolDMZ anything close to an a-hole is an idiot to be automatically dismissed. I really hope it makes the writer feel important to make such ridiculous and crude personal attacks, because it's accomplishing nothing else.
ReplyDeleteThere, I said it. It is seriously so pathetic to let a freakin blog with joking comments incite you to personally attack someone like that. I suggest the writer do something like, I don't know, read a newspaper, to find something worthwhile to be angry about instead of spending so much time trying to create controversy about some dude with another website. Get a grip! Or perhaps a life that exists outside of the internet. Megan Webb Fera.
Am I missing something? I can't see what this guy did that was so bad. I can see why you might teast him for the snarky remark, but the rest of the shit-talking is confusing. Besides, if he's Emily's brother he's got to be nice!
ReplyDelete-michele
'Teast' is Olde English for tease.

As a huge fan of both Emily AND her brother, I might have gone a little overboard in defending them. What can I say? I luuuuv the people I love. Sorry. Me new to blogging. Me better off staying out of it. :) Megan
ReplyDeleteI agree with megan and miller that anonymous electronic attacks are juvenile and that people should own up to their comments. Not to mention that it is unfair to heckasac. Get your own hater blog, if that's what it takes.
ReplyDeleteOh, and thanks for your sweet words, michele!

Maybe this is unnecessary, but I feel as though I need to clear my name. The only comments I posted in this thread were, "No, just more snarky" and "whatever," which was supposed to be a response to the comment, "You mean snarkier," NOT a response to, "Will no-one come to my aid!!?"
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I just realized that CoolDMZ had linked to one of my previous comments which bagged on his use of the work "snarky" and I thought it might look like I was the one making all those comments trying to retaliate! So you guys are right, if I hadn't posted anonymously, I wouldn't have to worry about this.
Sorry CoolDMZ if my comments came off as mean spirited. I've played kickball with you before, with the Homzee if I recall correctly, and you're a nice guy.
BREW
I think it was you and your friends that kicked out asses in Capitol park. I remember the armeniac finally getting a good kick in for our team, but then running past first base, straight to second.

the foods great. better than your beloved bernardo. you seem to eat everything else, why not just go in for yourself. and if your afraid of the "assholes", its the same people who dine at your beloved waterboy. you should have eaten there already if you actually know anything about cusine and dinning.
ReplyDeleteMis-spelling both 'cuisine' & 'dining' kinda cut some of the balls off that last dis. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeletemiller
Got This From the SNR:
ReplyDeleteYou may just be the only "dinning" expert that comments on this blog. I can't wait to go eat at the Mason's complex now.
BREW
This reminds me of her constant misspelling of chardonney.
ReplyDeletehey,no jive talkin here!
ReplyDeletesudoku is the new cryptoquote!!
SNR should really get one!!!
that k-ball game was awsome...it was like me,DMZ,and Mike=3 dingers

Well I had dinner at Mason's last week on a Tuesday night. First off, when we walked in we were asked if we had a reservation. I looked around at a half empty restaurant in the Tuesday night before Thanksgiving and told them no. They said just one moment. The Hostess then proceeded to make a reservation in their computer before finally seating us.
ReplyDeleteThe entire place was sooooooooooo pretentious it was a joke. We had a cocktail before dinner and they got one of the three drinks wrong.
The dinner menu sounded great. We all ordered and got out appetizers and meal just fine (time wise)however, most of the food was average. Finished with coffee and a below average dessert. The final bill including tip was 178.00 for three people with only a total of 5 drinks.
It was very disappointing to say the least. Don't waste your time and money there! You can get a FANTASTIC meal for the same price or less at The Waterboy or Biba's which are both outstanding.
