public service announcement

There's a super scary article in the NY Times about acetaminophen (tylenol) poisoning. So watch out if you're sick and you're taking tylenol, maybe in conjunction with flu medicine that may also contain tylenol. Read the label! I guess sometimes people will be sick for a week and overdose without knowing it and they ruin their liver forever and have to get a transplant! So check the label and make sure you're not double dosing!

    Since nobody's commenting on this post, I think I'll use it to ask a totally unrelated question. Do you have to go to a vet to get Advantage or would a place like Safeway or Rite Aid have it?

    I heard that the stuff at the grocery store is not "the same" as the stuff from the vet. I don't know if this is true or not. I've seen other brands, like Hartz, at the grocery store, but not Advantage. I know that you can order it at about 10 million places on the internet and that it's not cheap. Try Western Feed in east sac. They are such gigantic dorks about anything pet related, that I loved to go in there and talk to them whenever I used to get the chance.

    So what you're saying is you like to accompany people on their Advantage-buying trips - hmm, what are you doing after work?

    Don't use Hartz! It may be expensive, but you definitely have to go to the vet or a pet supply store to get flea medicine that is safe for cats. Hartz is toxic!!!

    Advantage is sold at PetCo. I think it's like $40 for a package of 4.

    Miller, you can get Advantage at Western Feed and Pet Department Store (across from the Pasty Shack & 2-Me). Don't buy Hartz. I've read some pretty bad stuff about that. If you want to buy flea stuff online try http://www.drsfostersmith.com/ they have pretty good prices.

    I once bought advantage at the vet and they gave me a 8 or 16 pack and only charged me for 4! punk rock!
    last time i put advantage on burgie, all her hair on that spot fell out and she had a quarter size bald spot. I think the advantage may have been old.

  12. I hate worrying about my liver. Stupid liver! It's the only thing standing between me and all the booze in the world. But it's small and its reflexes are slow so I think I can beat it. I wish I could somehow shunt some of the alcohol to some useless organ like my appendix or better yet, my ovaries and uterus. I'm never going to use those so what if all the wine I drink could just go straight there? Brilliant!

    Reading labels is all well and good but the information in the labels is very conservative because the average consumer is such an idiot. If you want really good drug information both presrciption and OTC try a PDR (Physician's Desk Referernce). You can find them at regular bookstores. Besides the phone book it was my main reading material during slow nights when I worked at hospital and never let me down.
