Pardon me, is that Disaronno you're drinking?
My hits are way down because of my vacation and the fact that most people are off today and also because I mostly just post links to craigslist anyways, so I keep wavering about posting a real post. And by real post I mean telling you crud like where I ate recently, what happened at all the parties I went to, and what is coming up in Sac this week. I'll leave it for tomorrow I guess. But for now I'd like to tell you about a trendy new drink that is sweeping Sacramento. Or at least my kitchen. It is a liqueur called Disaronno. Chris O. brought it to my Halloween party and said he mixes it with Dr. Pepper. I tried it recently and it is delicious. No matter how much liquor you pour in, it still mostly just tastes like Dr. Pepper. It's also good on the rocks (so smooth! so cloyingly sweet!) and Ella C. advised me to pour it into my french toast batter (that sounds dirty) which I promptly did to the delight of all eaters.
Speaking of dirty, have you seen the suggestive Disaronno tv ad? Let me sum up: last drop of creamy liquor suspended over a woman's open mouth.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, Patrone had a dream about Josh Reynolds on NY's Eve. (hilarious in itself, he'll have to tell it.) Imagine his surprise that day when thumbing through the Post, he came across this:

Summer
Wait, are you sure that isn't a Bailey's ad? Because I'd think Bailey's would look more like something suggestive (and something creamy, for that matter) than disarrano. Disarrano just looks like transparent brown liquid.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Disarrano with Dr. Pepper? I got that idea from Leon. I actually don't drink it that way that much. I like it straight way too much.
I also left my sticky flask at Miller's house with about an ounce of that stuff left in it. Damn.
I tried to blog today, but my computer keeps shutting itself off from overheating. I guess you'll all see my post tomorrow.
mixologist here.
ReplyDeletecoke and amaretto. less sugary, just as sweet.
i bet it'd be heaven in ginger beer.
Amaretto and coke was my very first drink. Now I just use amaretto when I am making truffles/something chocolately that tastes good with booze. Its supposed to be almond flavored, but it doesn't taste that way to me so much....The DiSaranno also goes well in coffee....it's a cordial just like Frangelico (hazelnut flavor) and Bailey's Irish Creme...YUM!
ReplyDeleteDon't get drunk off these.... worst hangovers everrrrrr....
The disaronno TV ad that I saw was indeed suggestive but it involved a Fabio-esque guy with an Italian accent.
ReplyDeleteI heard last night that a popular drink in Barcelona is beer and lemon Fanta. I want to try it. Also, as of January 1st they just banned indoor smoking, either in Barcelona or all of Spain, I'm not sure. The global tide is turning. I love it!
Funny, I get hammered off of Disarrano and Bailey's all the time, and as long as I get enough sleep, the hangover's not that bad. Maybe I'm just such a drunk that I would have had to have drank a whole bottle of scotch before the next morning really registers as a hangover for me.
ReplyDeleteAmaretto is at its finest in a cup of coffee. I used to call it "Sunday Coffee" cause on sunday you should put some liquer in your coffee to celebrate the last day of your weekend.
ReplyDeleteIs Fanta lemon ever coming to the states? Cause it is deliciousness. I bet if it ever does it will be for the american palate and boring. Yuck. When I was in Spain five million years ago I was taken out to a bar for "sangria" aka red wine + Fanta lemon. It was shocking, a bit disturbing, and a delicious late summer treat.
In a fashion similar to fanta and beer, I used to drink Erupting Mountains. That's right, cheap beer and mountain dew, in equal parts. Fantastic.
Miss B
I had disaronno for the first time a several years ago in Spain, and was delighted to discover that you could go para llevar with them. I like it best with Sprite. hmmm, I think we should go get one for lunch someday, becky.
ReplyDeleteThe Fanta/Beer combo is like a trashy Shandy!
ReplyDeleteI like to make them with that french sparkling lemonade and brew like ESB. Or regular lemonade is good too.
Or ginger ale.
I cold use one right now.
Ella
could?
ReplyDeletecold?
argh I'm tired!
Ella
Amaretto is also good on "the rocks" which makes you look like a hard-core, Jack Daniels drinking, boozer (when in fact, you're just a girl-drink-drunk) at parties which is cool, if that's the image you are striving to achive.
ReplyDeleteThe latest wonder drink that we've been drinking lately is Becherovka. Its Czech herbal liquor, has a secret recipe but you can tell it involved anise, cinnomon and bitters. Im not really a fan of any of these but you can drink it all night and feel not only fine in the morning, but better than you did the night before. Its magical. I would recommend it to anyone who tends to barf and get back headaches from booze. We mix it with tonic or club soda. A squeeze of leom is good too. Tess
ReplyDeleteTess this sounds right up my alley.
ReplyDelete200sex is all about medicinal drinks. Tea and drambuie, emergency and scotch, nodoze and wine coolers, whatever, as long as it helps while it hurts.
head.
Orange Fanta with red wine is a favorite of mine from Madrid. I know it sounds disgusting but try it. Really I wasn't a believer at first.
ReplyDeleteRosemary
I'm testing out Alka Seltzer Morning Relief & Rum tonight. Ron Vicaro Rum, that is. AKA the rum that nobody would touch even when the booze ran out. Full report tomorrow.

If y'all are getting drunk off liqueurs, there is a serious problem -- either a drinking problem or a tolerance problem. One of the two. Or both.
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo, from one Dr. Pepper afficionado to you, please try Dr. Pepper and Capt. Morgan Spiced Rum. Nice!

Alize + Jolt = Boss Baller
ReplyDeleteCapt Morgan + Ginger Ale = Great American Cream Team
Capt. Morgan and Dr. Pepper equals a diabetes problem AND a splitting headache. I will stick with that works for me....which isnt that.
ReplyDeletethat may have been the rum i was drinking out of the bottle and i have a sinus infection. i suppose the alcohol content would rid the stuff of any germs but i just thought i'd warn you. i don't entirely remember what kind of rum it was a largish bottle with a cork top. oh, i didn't know i had a sinus infection at the time--that's why i was swigging straight from the bottle.
ReplyDeleteNo, that was Willie's bottle of some crazy top shelf shit. And I'm not talking the top shelf of the Albertsons liquor aisle which is where the Ron Vicaro came from. The weird thing about Willie's rum is that is smelled harsh but tasted super smooth. If you didn't breathe in before taking a drink, it ruled.
ReplyDelete-Willie's rum guy.
The way that ameretto runs down the side of a glass like thin maple syrup gives you away if you're tryin' to look like the Marlboro man.
ReplyDeleteyou know, that rum was super good. i figured it was top shelf cause the label looked super classy and it did go down smooth. i hope i didn't get it all germy and make any one sick. i'd feel bad about that.
ReplyDeleteI would imagine that a virus wouldn't be able to live in a bottle of 80 proof rum. Come think of it, if you drank enough rum, it would cure just about any infection. Of course, if you drank enough rum to do that, it would also kill you.
ReplyDeleteMiller I salute your mix.
ReplyDelete-natalie.
i've been making 7gria for ages now!
ReplyDeletea bottle of two buck chuck
some 7up
a splash of squeezable lemon juice
this would be so much better with lemon Fanta! those Spainards are so wine savvy.
Disaronno and a dark beer, such as Rickard's Red, is great too. It actually tastes just like Dr. Pepper.
ReplyDeleteI also found the combination myself as i could tell a simularity between Dr peeper and Disaronno, i like it with ice with a slice of lemon its tooooo sick
ReplyDeleteI for sure agree about the hang over! Who knew that something with only 28% alcohol could A) get you so wasted and B) make you feel like such crap the next day!
ReplyDeleteWow, nice information for more beer and lemon
