another take on Zokku

That carrot post didn't exactly set the blog on fire, so as you've all probably recovered from that shock, I'll link to the post by a noted Sac chowhound on Zokku. It's much more negative than Mike Dunne's, but as someone else posted, they trust this guy more than Dunne, so it's nice to have another perspective. The happy hour would sound intriguing, except I bet that vinovert is right about the crappy wine list and I don't really like liquor drinks. On the plus side there is that fake boulder, though, and Japanese and Chinese beer is always refreshing, so we'll see, Zokku, we'll see.

Gosh, thanks for the warm Heckasac welcome. I've really enjoyed reading the site since discovering it a few months back. But I just reread my remarks from last night and I'm embarrassed that in comments that were supposed to sing the praises of Shelley Duvall I blathered on and on about a former employer. (Gawd, it really was an awful company, though...)

I've been trying to be better about promoting the screenings at Kabinet. Last month the SN&R gave us a nice write up, and I've been shamelessly handing out flyers for this month's series -- a four-week tribute to Fritz Lang -- everywhere I go. And I've enlisted the help of a friend who's a very talented graphic designer, so hopefully come March you'll see some full-color broadsheets around town.

In the meantime, if you or anyone who reads your blog would like to come to this Sunday's screening (the bizarre RANCHO NOTORIOUS, starring Marlene Deitrich in one of Lang's few Westerns) I'd be honored to have you as a guest. Just mention that you heard about it on Heckasac and the screening is free. Oh, and the Two Buck Chuck is always gratis.

By the way, someone going by "omf" mentioned coming to a screening of WHITE ZOMBIE last October. Thanks for the kind words about our little dog-and-pony show. (And yes, I can confirm that some of our audience members do spout beards, and Birkenstocks, and occasionally a combination fo the two. But hey, it takes a village, right?) Anyway, hope we'll see you again.

One last thing: wanted to thank you profusely for turning me onto the Thursday night food fest at Sub Shack. After reading your post, I was chomping at the bit to check it out, and finally after a few weeks' wait, I made it there when the featured cuisine was Argentinian. In all honesty, it was one of the best meals I've had in...well, as far back as I can remember. Just amazing. I've been trying to get back ever since, but for some reason I always wind up with something else on my plate (literally and figuratively) on Thursday nights.

Thanks again, and hope to see you at Kabinet soon!

    Take care,
    J.

  2. I'm glad that you had a shack attack on my recommendation. I always tend to have something going on on thursday nights so I haven't made it back since that first time but I want to cuz that guy will get you wasted on awesome wine for like five bucks. You can't beat that. Also, don't forget the shack for breakfast and lunch. I'll try to make it to that screening this week. I can bring my own wine, right?
