Exciting. And I just heard about some restaurant with the crazy name of Birriera Bugambilias on 7242 Franklin from R.E. on the DIY list. I want to go! Does anyone know what that name means?

A birreria is a place that serves birria, which is like a traditional Mexican stew made from goat meat, usually, and sometimes beef. It is best enjoyed hung-over, with a cold beer, in my humble opinion.

Bugambillas are bouganvillias, the flowers? I think...

So, the goat stew restaurant named after flowers. Maybe.

Oye! I tried to hip Heckasac to Birreria Bugambilias in a comment from a couple months ago. Anyway, the previous description is right on the $ about the name. Birreria Bugambilias has awesome homemade tortillas and lots of regional dishes from Michoacan. I'm also gonna vouch again for La Placita, which is down the road on Florin near Power Inn. Go on weekends for pozole or menudo, and the carnitas are usually tasty, too.

Has anybody been to the re-located 524 Restraunt in Northgate? I wish it was still on 12th st. The pico de gallo will straighten out a hangover and the cocido rules. It used to stay open till 3am way back in the day.
Then there was the 24 hour Georgina's Cafe & lo-ball card room on 19th & Capitol. Cool & seedy greasy spoon, where you can have a drunken meal with the hookers who were dodging the vice squad on J street.
Man, downtown has lost alot of it's funky charm. The same thing is happening to San Jose. Probably the same developers.

Actually, it was called "Georgian's Casino", and it was at 19th & Jay...

I like the other 524 but the ambience can never match the amazing 12th St one. Still worth going though. Georgian's - man, I forgot about that place! If you magically dropped me in the middle of downtown circa 1986 I'd probably get lost. It really has changed to a crazy degree. So many things that gave Sac a unique character are gone - the old Georgian's being a Starbucks/Noah's/Jamba Juice pretty much sums it up.

Do you remember when World's Best Comics was located at 14th & Jay?

Yeah, they had records there too right? Was it Donnie J's record store that was also in there?

Oh yea...I sorta recall Donnie J. selling records out of World's Best's first location. I remember wandering into Dave's 14th & Jay shop when I first moved to Sac and then he moved to the K Street location a bit later (the best location because he lived above the shop and had fun parties/bands there)...

Yeah the K St one ruled. And Dave's apartment was a crazier extension of the shop! Seemed totally fitting to first hear Pounded Clown surrounded by all that wacky shit.
