bad news

The house that Olipom was in is completely burnt. It looks like the upstairs got the brunt of the damage but I'm pretty sure Olipom is over at that location. I hope no one was hurt. I feel terrible for Olivia. I hope she can bring Olipom back, it seems like it was really successful. I went in there saturday and it was packed as usual. Here's the story in the Bee. Firefighters were hurt, but it doesn't sound like the residents of the house were. Terrible

Poor Charlie Barnes lost everything too. Seems like he's been having a tough time lately. I'd heard he was moving, but he didn't mention it the last time I saw him. In fact it seemed like he was planning on staying long-term. Lots of memories there. Christmas fights, Mark Miller's bike repair and so on...

I'm glad everyone there found a place to stay for a while anyway.

I didn't know about this until I saw the broadcast. I biked over to see if there was anything to do. Everyone who either lived or worked there had found lodgings, so they're okay that way. I am sure they're pretty torn up inside though. So CB *was* moving after all. We should pitch in for these folks. I wonder what the investigation will find. (There will be one, right?)

  6. Man, I had just seen Charlie the previous night at Jeff Daris's place. Band that Time Forgot was recording at Joel Goulet's house, and somebody received a call about the fire. When I took Mike home, it looked like it was all over with, just firetrucks still sticking around outside. I was really worried about CB. I'm glad that he is okay, but to lose everything like that is just awful. I can hardly imagine.

  7. Here's Olivia's myspace with blog entries about the fire. She said that she has insurance but that it will be hard to find another place with rent that cheap.

ugh. this whole thing just breaks my heart.

not only is Olipom gone (one of my favorite downtown stores) but our friend Mr. Barnes is now out a home and all that entails as well.

maybe Olipom can set up inside Flatspot for a short time?

Bad luck? Well, instead of being trapped in a burning building when I learned about the fire, I was trapped in Elk Grove. So luck-wise, that's maybe a wash.

As far as the tough time Ed says I've been having lately, this concerns me -- things have been generally good; what does Ed know that I don't?

I'm glad no one was killed, and the whole block didn't go up. So I have to buy some new pants and take some more vacations so that I have photos again.

    I needed a new ... everything ... anyway.

Sympathy appreciated, but all is OK with me. Hopefully all my former neighbors are dealing with the aftermath well...
