Oh my God, don't even get me started on how much I hate Pierloni's list! To use an overused acronym WTF? Isn't this the SACRAMENTO BEE? Opa Opa is the only place even near the grid and everyone seems to concur that it's really mediocre.
I also missed this article on the rebuilding of 524 #1. I ate at #2 before Christmas and it was great as always. You just hop on 160 and get off at Northgate. It's barely farther than the other one was.
Not to harp on geography again, but I agree with your point. Elk Grove? North Natomas? Lincoln? (no offense) -- does anyone whatsoever actually WANT to go to these places unless your attorney lives out there or you're getting elective surgery? So why eat there?
ReplyDeleteI think you missed the second page with more sacto stuff. He even mentions the Market Club. I haven't been there forever. I forgot about it. Now I can not rest until I have their delicious mashed potatoes and pork chops.

I did miss that. I still hate the beginning of his list, but it does suck to have an assignment to rate things like that.
ReplyDeleteyou ever have the eggplant sandwich at opa opa?
ReplyDeletenope. i don't usually get the eggplant sandwich anywhere.
ReplyDeleteif I make a list of ten faves will you promise to hate it too? ;)
ReplyDeletedo it! i like lists, the bee food coverage is terrible so i just have an axe to grind where it is involved
ReplyDeleteSo Cosmo is leaving the SNR eh?
ReplyDeleteyou got a problem with eggplant? Opa Opa does it right -- as good as the Greek guy with the catering truck at all the festivals in the summer.
ReplyDeleteDrippy, messy, melt in your mouth goodness.
Is this the owner of Opa Opa? Or is he too busy on Yelp?

Well, thanks to this list, looking at number 7, we now know the answer the famous question "Where is Pancakes House?"
ReplyDeleteyou're right, you're reading it wrong. read it 20 more times and then get back to me with a full critique.
ReplyDeleteBeg to differ with the Stephen Glass dude upthread regarding not wanting to venture off the grid for good vittles. There's a lot of good eatin' in the burbs; even out in "Arden Arcade," where I live, there's Fulton Avenue. And 524 No. 2 is only on Northgate about a mile or so north of downtown; it isn't like traveling to the Sutter Buttes for a good plate if Chicana Picosa or anything. Doentown is getting so overloaded with swanky joints that cater to all of Arnold's army of clones that the burbs are where it's at for tasty and reasonably priced chow in Sacto these days.
ReplyDeleteFave latest joint: Pho King 3 on Stockton Blvd. If I were Vietnamese and could cook like that, my place'd be Pho King A, but that's a bad joke for another time.
Love yr blog, by the way.
