tattletale

The stupid old narc Bee wrote a FRONT PAGE article yesterday in which two hard-hitting investigative journalists revealed that state workers are editing wikipedia pages on their work computers. Nobody likes a tattletale, sacbee. I'm sure you are all working hard 40 hours a week and don't have time to do things like, say, check blogs or anything. Yeah, I'm a little sensitive about this because I have an office job and everybody knows the deal with office jobs, there is downtime, and you make it bearable by surfing the internet and emailing your friends. Stateworkers are human, don't fuck up probably one of the only things that makes their jobs bearable. I don't see the big deal with editing a wikipedia entry on porno either, you prudes. Wikipedia contains text only, not pictures, so it's not like they're sexually harrassing others by looking at the page or something.

Congratulations go out to our local Rubicon Brewing Co. for winning a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in the Belgian-style sour ale category for their high mountain cherry ale. This is like the academy awards of America beer, so this is a big deal. Unfortunately, they don't have this beer on draft, but they do have plans to bottle it soon, and I can't wait. I've really been enjoying American sour ales lately, particularly those brewed by Russian River...but you'll have to read about my visit to Russian River Brewing in the next Midtown Monthly.

  1. What? Are you saying Rubicon makes beer that isn't mediocre at best? Even Monkey Knife Fight is only drank because it has a good name (and that's mostly on Tuesdays when it's cheap). I was really hoping that the new owner would start brewing good beers. Maybe its finally happened.

And by "good name" you mean "bad name" right?

I don't think that dishwater after taste is the fault of the beers. Someone might suggest to them they clean out their taps with something other than old dishwater. jam.

  6. Pleb-B-R, maybe.

When my parents moved recently, we were cleaning out a box of old newspaper clippings, and found a letter to the editor that mother wrote three decades ago complaining about another Bee "expose". In this one, the Bee writers called random state workers late in the afternoon Friday, and deduced that they had skipped out of work early when the phone wasn't answered. So the Bee has a long tradition of hypocritical, snobbish quasi-journalism in this matter.

  7. hey, does anyone know how to look at wikipedia and see how many sacbee computers are being used to edit pages?

  8. this comment on the story is making me laugh (insterspersed among the alarmists who want to arrest all the state workers looking at the internet)

There are just as many people who view sacbee.com at work, I don't see a big article about that. Sacbee is always out to do some Barney Fife investigation and make it seem like it's busted an America's Most Wanted case

  9. Reporters goofing off in the newsroom at their desks and surfing the web? That's shocking, unspeakable madness; it would never happen.
Oh, and if they get caught they're "doing research" or "reading the wire."

  10. My roommate is moving out in 30 days so I'm looking for a roommate. 1st of the month is fine, she'll be out of your hair. You get cable, internet, plenty o' storage space, free movies, washer/dryer, dishwasher and occasional people from other countries sleeping on the couch. $400/month. I'm quiet most of the time. Spend most of my time sitting on my ass reading or I'm not at home. Oh, you get Skipper sleeping on the couch and cooking and bbqing some great food. Great porch for sitting. I'd be up for switching rooms so you can have the larger one, and have 2 people move in for cheap rent. I leave on Round 2 of my round the world trip end of March. I'd like to find someone who'll stay here while I'm gone. Probably a year, maybe longer. Or, if I blow up the motorcycle again, 9 months.

    I'm easy enough to find.

Are you going to write about the lambic ale at Russian River? They do have a lambic there right? Or is it just the sour beer, you're talking about? Smiller was telling me about something along those lines, when I told him about the insanely odd lambic I had in Amsterdam last spring. It tasted like olives and a tiny bit like cheese. Not normally something I want to taste in my beer, but it was still really interesting.

RR seems to refer to all their sour wild yeast beers as ales & not lambic. I won't pretend to know all the technical differences. To me they have a similar taste but lambics are usually a little thinner in the mouth. More like wine than beer. Though I just tried an Oud Beersell Geuze that was the most beerlike geuze or lambic I've ever had. The slightly thicker body added something for me. I can only imagine what you had in Amsterdam! It sounds so gross & delicious!

  14. you mean it has a thin mouthfeel? what was the lambic or sour we had that tasted like goat cheese and that we were coincidentally eating goat cheese with?

  16. I'm going to have to go on record as saying that some Wiki articles about specific porn actors do have (or at least, have had) pictures of the actors totally nude. Some of the articles about specific actors, models, studios, etc. also get rather in-detail about what it is that the actors do, what they're famous for, etc., and in a context that, while still only informative, is informative in a way that is only relavent in the context of the provocative nature of pornography. So well, even though I agree with you in essence about state workers and their time spent editing wiki entries, even wiki entries about porn, there is, nevertheless, some "blue" content on wikipedia.
