1lb fish+8 ripe lemons+thinly slice onion+thinly slice hot pepper+salt and pepper
let it "cook" for at least 4 hours in the frig.
If you use other things besides fish make sure the scallops, shrimp, squid are small enough to cook through with the lemon. And some people mix limes in with lemon, my recipe giver was a solid lemon person, so I followed his advice.
I don't think there's any good ceviche downtown. Go to Franklin or Northgate. Today i went to a seafood restaurant on Northgate that was right on. I ordered the coctail w/ everything. It had abalone, shrimp, octopus, fish and imitation crab. Everything in it tasted fresh and it didn't give me the trots while I was at Thrift Town later. They gave me a free ceviche tostada to munch on while I waited for the coctail. It's mostly an outside patio. Some old dude had a guitar and was singing corridos in the corner. I don't know spanish very well but the music had a pleasant effect on me. The staff was really friendly and eager to talk about the dishes on their menu. All in all a good experience. I'm going back next week. I don't know the name of the restaurant because I left there on a cloud. If your coming from downtown through the 160, it's the first restaurant on the right. I believe it's next to a liqour store. Larry
Larry- I think I spied that place. I'll try it for sure! Plus, I can ride my bike there. Or actually, I guess I won't unless the stabber has been caught. Over on the right side a little farther down I also spied a new Pakistani market. I want to check that out.
Maybe I will go to Ella's just because it's on the MM dime. Oops, Liv and Tim will probably read this, huh?

Sorry I meant some people are lime people . . .
ReplyDeleteI'm a lime dog. Is there anything lime can't do? But this is for an article, so making it at home isn't an option.
ReplyDeleteTry La Fiesta. I know, it sounds dumb, but seriously, it's great there. Probably the best thing they do.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't sound dumb. I don't think that there's a big of risk of getting food poisoning from ceviche as people think. More squeamishness.
ReplyDeleteis there a big risk of getting food poisoning at the party?
ReplyDeleteway overpriced, but Celestin's ceviche isn't bad.
ReplyDeletehigh dollar, but delicious in every way is Ella's ceviche.
