I posted about my horror at this on tuesday right before I left, but then I took it down because I didn't want to be accused of being negative or tearing down local business. Let's just say that I am the opposite of excited at the prospect of the old Pava's site being turned into a branch of the Cafe Gratitude chain.
Also, I am the opposite of pleased that Kevin Johnson publicly stated in the Bee that K street should try to attract Niketown. I hope he tries to grab some other teens boobs on some secret hidden camera so that he will get kicked out of this race.
I was the opposite of bored to see David Blaine break the world record for holding his breath on Oprah yesterday. That guy is such a freak!
Perhaps some "I am the opposite of pleased steamed tofu" will put you in the right mood?
ReplyDeleteI am seriously considering volunteering for Heather's campaign and getting some yard signs. KJ is freakin' me out!
ReplyDeleteIt does give me hope, however, that in recent months the handful of folks I knew who were thinking of voting for him have now changed their minds in light of recent news. Perhaps this happening all over town? I can hope...
correction:
ReplyDeletePerhaps this IS happening all over town?
Ugh, am I the only person annoyed at how 'gratitude' and 'abundance' have totally been hijacked into New Age marketing talk?
ReplyDeletewow, that's the most annoying menu I've ever read.
ReplyDeleteJD
That's probably because you don't cherish yourself enough to think that you deserve to say those things aloud.
ReplyDeleteI just got the reminder email from the Weatherstone about their friday bbq night, and I remembered that I didn't post about sampling that last friday. My review is definitely so-so. It's seven bucks (or is it 8? dammit, I deleted the email). They serve it in a cardboard takeout box with plastic utensils, even though most people seem to eat it there, and it's really unpleasant to try to maneuver around the walls of the box to cut the meat with your plastic knife. Plus, there are no partitions and everything slops together. My chicken leg and thigh had an excellent smoky taste, but my piece had barely three bites of meat on it (not their fault, you couldn't really tell) and gave the alarming appearance of possibly not being completely cooked. Smiller's piece was more fully cooked and had more meat. I am known when hungry to just keep eating chicken that appears to be raw, and have not come down with salmonella (yet). Later that night, MikeRMike tried to reassure me by saying that his uncle didn't come down with salmonella until 24 hours later (after inadvertently swallowing a salmonella contaminated fly) and that that was the sickest he'd ever seen anyone get who wasn't dying. I protested, "but I just ate the chicken three hours ago, how is that supposed to make me feel better?" but he didn't answer. The sauce (espresso tamarind) was tart and excellent! The sides (beans and slaw) were great, too! I was still quite hungry when I finished. The portion wasn't really dinner-sized. I would try it again, but I really hope they at least get some paper plates.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I kind of like the idea of a vegetarian (that isn't just asian food) place in town. The only thing we have is Sunflower, which is all the way in Old Fair Oaks.
ReplyDeleteI am all for it. -Alisha
You can hate Kevin Johnson if you want and sure don't vote for him, but please don't forget that Heather Fargo will do anything in the name of the mighty dollar. For instance putting the lives and property of 70,000 at risk by chasing the development dollar in Natomas. It is not a question of whether or not it will flood but when.
ReplyDeleteYour google terms :"Heather Fargo" Natomas flood
Dude, it's completely egregious.
Oh and remeber that thing about the Crest? She never even acknowledged my email. No form letter, not anything.
gbomb
I know. I totally admit it's lesser of evils syndrome which is why I'm currently in a considering mode. I haven't %100 reached action yet.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that whoever wrote that menu is heavily into "The Secret."
ReplyDeleteIt almost transcends parody.
I'm with G Bomb on that one, and this to boot: A new Fire Station (Station 43) was budgeted to be built on the west side of I-5 with all of the new construction. The land was purchased and set aside by the developer. Funding for the station has "myseriously" disappeared or been diverted over the last three years and the station was never built, leaving that entire area without adequate fire or paramedic coverage. The nearest responders are usually 10-15 minutes away. If they are out on a call it could be up to a 20 minute response. The residents and business owners pay the same taxes as the rest of the city but are definitely rolling the dice when it comes to floods, fires, or medical emergencies.
ReplyDeleteCH
And G Bomb when are you going to come pick up your shoe?
Hey CH have you ever heard of email or phoning? Why do we have to conduct all of our business through beckler's blog. I have never gotten that.
ReplyDeleteg
I must confess, though, that the food at Gratitude is quite good.
ReplyDeleteWell there was a nice little vegetarian place near downtown, Mums. And as with the Sunflower, you got great veggie food without a side of woo woo.
ReplyDeleteyeah, i mean i guess andy nguyen has a bunch of dumb names for their food, too. it's more exciting than another steakhouse.
ReplyDeleteI kinda think that for a chain, that seems okay. I also agree that downtown does need more vegetarian options.
ReplyDeletePlus, I just met Thomas Roth this week and like him and get the sense that he really loves Sac and the wants to preserve its character.

Liberal blogs also aired online grievances after Johnson declared his support for traditional marriage as reported in the April 10 edition of the Sacramento News & Review.
“That’s lame! I hope he gets grilled about this during his campaign,” wrote a blogger at www.heckasac.blogspot.com. “Sacramento is a gay-friendly town and we need a gay-friendly mayor.”
I'm far from vegetarian, but the food at Cafe Graditude is pretty good. How is this worse than a fenced up dirt lot?
ReplyDeletegbomb, did J. ever tell you about the letter we got from Heather Fargo when she was on the city council and we each sent letters about the traffic calming plan before the city council voted on it? She sent us each a form letter telling us that if we'd wanted to express our opinions we should have done so when the plan was first being formulated, twenty years earlier. You know, when we were in KINDERGARTEN.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm voting for Leonard Padilla.
Padilla for Mayor
ReplyDelete"By opening up further development in the Natomas area along the same lines as the Greenbriar project and having developers post fees in advance of completion of the projects, the current budget deficits can be addressed."
Padilla answers questions regarding the "skeletons" from his past
Leonard Padilla denies that he shot Kevin Johnson's cousin during an armed robbery attempt at Padilla's establishment in 1975. April 26, 2008
"...it was my security guard who shot Johnson's cousin...he was armed and attempting to rob my establishment..."
lol
oh, but gratitudes is WAY overpriced. even the coffee is like $3!!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Cafe Platitude!
ReplyDeleteI Am Nauseated
Succulent salt pork, served at room temperature and lovingly sprinkled with monosodium glutamate.
$8
I Am Impacted
A hearty one-pound block of American cheese, individually sliced and wrapped. $6
Add fresh-baked Saltines for $2.
I Am Hungry
A shotglass of double-strength Knorr beef boullion with a sprig of parley. $12
G Bomb, I have no idea what you are talking about. Oh, and can you pick up a loaf of bread and some peanut butter on the way home? And don't forget to stop and pay the SMUD bill, I'll be at my meeting until about 8 and they'll be closed. Your dentist called about your appointment next week, but I left a Post-it on the fridge for you. Oh wait...
ReplyDeleteCH
This one chick told me that the Cafe Gratidtudes were started by Woody Harleson so he'd always have a place to hang with raw foods in all his fave towns. Is this true? If it is you should feel HONORED, Sacto! Nothing says "we've arrived" like Harelson.
ReplyDelete-- Patrone
He's already been spotted around town whenever he comes to the capitol to try to make joint smoking mandatory in California. You't think he would have pulled strings to keep that spot the location of the vegan rasta food truck.
ReplyDeleteIs Cafe Gratitude RAW? If so, I am definitely against it.
no they have coffee. but i think everything else is sprouted. real tasty!
ReplyDeleteI like that term "woo woo." Haha!
ReplyDeleteamanda
That's not a joke -- I think Harelson's really in on it!
ReplyDeleteAnother true story, my friend brought Billy Childish to Cafe Gratitude and, being that the latter is the most miserable, hateful fucker ever, almost had a nervous breakdown when the waiter came over and said, "Good morning, I love you!"
-- Patrone
Bwahahaha! Seriously, the waiters say they love you? I'll be ordering the "I just vomited in my mouth" curried eggplant.
ReplyDeleteWell, two houses down the street from me still have KJ signs up, so I'm thinking people aren't concerned about the whole sexual predator thing.
I'd vote for Muriel Strand if I didn't think KJ had a chance.
I don't know if the 'Luv Ya!' is mandated flair; I think the waiter was just free-ballin' it and that was the best improv he could come up with.
ReplyDeletesemi-colon = BOOM!!!
-- Patrone
Uh, count mockula, vote for Muriel Strand. It's a run off election.
ReplyDeletegbomb
That Sacramento Union quote is blowing my mind. I never thought of heckasac as a "liberal blog." Now I know all kinds of ways to marginalize your views when we disagree about movies.
ReplyDelete"Your hatred of the Matrix sequels is because of your liberal bias!" - Charles
does this make us part of the wingnut fringe?
ReplyDeleteI will be making my tinfoil hat right after I am done watching this 9-11 conspiracy DVD I bough off the internet.
ReplyDeleteCharles
i'd like more veggie eats in town. it does suck, however, that those veggie eats can't be from a local business. not to sound new agey, but homegrown restaurants are always a better thing in my book. that said, i get super embarrassed for people who throw liberation marketing at food products.

ReplyDeleteSorry to be so tardy on this one, but Gratitude's overpriced raw hippy food is AMAZING. I love it and am very excited at the though of being able to eat it here.
ReplyDeleteThey're not exactly a big corporation, not even close and I don't know if this makes it better or worse, but I think they're totally sincere in their New Age-yness and not just puttin' on the yippy cap to sell some "I Am Intoxicating" broccoli mushroom tarts.
Of course, I like David Blaine too, so...
