where is dave smith?

Holy crap, this picture is fucking huge. It's on the message board post of a dude named Ashwar that is on the motorcycle ride with Dave Smith. Dave posted on his blog today, Liv's blog reminded me to check it. I have tomorrow off. So this is all you got.

  1. I hate to call attention to yelp, which I can't stand these days, but check out this thread on hipsters if you want some entertaining reading.

wow, everything from "wearing striped shirts" (which covers almost everyone in the world) to "making homemade furniture"

    new tread:

you might be a popular yelper if...

you chat with your yelp friends on a thread like an instant messager, you use a secret yelp language thats lol, and you organize/get excited about yelp meetings.

  5. hey, I wanna book a show at West Capitol Bowl. How does one do that? I don't want to cold call and have them say "never hearda ya!" and hang up.

  6. even though it's a little too pop-culture heavy for me to always know what he's talking about, this blog fourfour always has super sharp, funny writing, and his review of the r.kelly has convinced me to buy it

I think I'm pretty hip. Maybe I should develop some sort of ranking system that will scientifically place me at the top of the hipsterest (yup, just made that word up, that's how hip I am) readers of the heckasac list. It shouldn't be hard...jokes!

  8. Do you wear stripes and make your own furniture?

  9. Anonymous3:47 PM

I think it's pretty hip when people rate businesses on yelp that they work for/are connected with. See: Midtown Monthly.

Recently put together alot of ikea furniture. Check.
I'm wearing a striped shirt right now. Check. It's a little gapey, I had to put a staple in it this morning to hold it together. Double Check.
    What else you got?

I have heard that suduko is really big with hipsters. How do you feel about that? Crossword puzzles? All super hip. Too hip for me, I'm afraid.

  12. do you enjoy pizza by the slice and avoid moshpits?

  13. also-to the anonymous "joke"-ster, please take that shit over to the midtown monthly blog. i know it's not as fun to troll, because you won't get much attention, but this is NOT the MM blog. i won't be back until monday and I don't want to return to a bunch of negative silliness.

Suduko? That is so 4 years ago. My current obsession is Slitherlink, followed closely by Hitori. Check.
I thought eveyone enjoyed me asking them answers to the crossword on Sunday? No? Check.
Pizza by the slice. I assume you're kidding. I LOVE pizza by the slice. Check.
And I for real don't like moshpits. Your glasses could get broken in there. And there was all that 'girls in front' business from my younger days which puts a very tall lady in an awkward position. Politically. Check.
This is the best. So far no ones got nothing on me!

When the first issue of Jerry Duty comes out I'm gonna Yelp the hell out of it. I already have 5 fake Yelp accounts: Bobby W, Jerry G, Phil L, Pigpen S and Wavy G.

Dude, I saw Chris Ancient at the pizza by the slice place. He totally said hi to me. Then he had to split to go hang out at Jamattack's table.

glad to see Midtown Monthly followed my advice and started a blog -- a lot of the writing works much better there than it did in print format.

And it's cool to see how responsive they are to constructive criticism.

Also, like how the blog allows them to be way more current than a montly pub.

Geez anoynomous, don't be so uptight. I wasn't making fun of anyone. Everything I said above about myself was completely true. No irony. I swear. The part I found funny was how many 'hipster' attributes can be described to me, or anyone for that matter. It's like that Friends episode where Pheobe is getting to know her mother and in their list of common likes they agree on puppies. Which is a way funnier joke when you don't have to explain it.

Reffering to friends story lines is super hipster, is it possible you are the hippest?

I did have to hold my sweather closed with a brad yesterday, what does get me.

  24. Should I yelp about Nepal? It's great here, except for being asked if I want I want heroin or hash every 30 seconds. When I say no, it's "Oh, you want coke. I have that too" and when I say no, it's, "Sure, it's coke. I'll be right here".

Tonight I'm going to a dance club strip club with a Belgium girl. They don't really strip, they take off enough clothes so they get to an Annette Funnicelo large bikini size.

Nepal kicks dirt and takes names. There's many striped shirts, pizza by the slice, and Midtown Monthly is everywhere, dude (and dude-ettes).

  25. shit, I'm not on myspace because i'm not a hipster (or am I? I'm wearing a striped shirt and converse right now) so how am I gonna book a show at the west capitol bowl? do they have a telegraph machine there? wow, lauren that's nice you have such a healthy self-image that allows you to believe that the publishers re-formulated their magazine because of you.

  28. I forgot to mention there's a ton of crappy cover bands here so it's almost like the 4 Eyes christmas show only without having the 4 Eyes patented ending. I find myself laughing at myself and everything a lot.

    hmmmm...

Aug. 5 I write "I think much of MM's content would be better as a myspace/facebook page or a local downtown scenester blog."

On Aug 13th Midtown Monthly starts a downtown scenester blog.

    Coincidence (assuming they exist)?
    or just community-responsive journalism?

    you decide

    either way, we all win

    Lauren

Thank you for noting my healthy self-image, I've been working on it.

I`m no longer in hi no kuni(land of fire) in the land of Kyushu. Got a job in Nagoya where portugeese(bom dia!) is spoken in 300,000 households.Last saturday- I watched a Kiss Cover band with a bunch of salary men.Ate pork cutlet with black miso sauce and drank alot. The 3rd biggest city in Japan and it`s a little intimdating to say the least. The family is still back in Kyushu where I will make a 500 km bi-weekly commute. That`s fairly typical in the japan salary man/work life culture thing.

I ate some bread like pastries with ham/potatoes and cheese on top(i will get the name next time). It was at a brazilian cafe with cool latin pop blasting out of cheap speakers.Back in the early 20th century alot of japanese immigrated to Brazil.During the 1980`s when the economy was roaring. Alot came back for jobs not knowing the language or culture they left.Still over a million japanese live in Brazil.Nagoya also has a huge jazz scene complete with old vintage tube amp radio stores.
