Blue Ribbon Contender

Prompted by reading the new blog I have linked at right (well, new to me), The Undercover Caterer, I just entered my Meyer Lemon Marmalade in the state fair!  If I have time to make basil strawbery jelly I might enter that, too.  The entry deadline is the end of June.  Just another reason to love the fair.

Only Wednesday? Drats.  There's a big show at West Capitol Bowl on Friday.  Knock Knock and English Singles.

  1. My taste buds are still very lonely because they have never partied with your marmalade.

  2. Also Friday, the Germs at the Distillery. It's the actor from the movie with the original members. I think this is the first show of their new tour.

  3. You're kidding me? Is it Skeet Ulrich? For some reason I thought he was supposed to play Darby Crash in a movie. Or was it just the poor man's Skeet Ulrich?

  4. It's $14 to see the Germs with the dude who played Darby in the movie. Seems like a bit much to see a member of Nirvana live.

  5. It's Shane West as Darby. It came out in 2007.

I feel if he's good enough to reunite the Germs, it's worth $14 for me. Lorna Doom has only played bass in the Germs. People would ask her to join bands post-Darby and she'd say something like, "I only play bass for the Germs".

I don't know much about Nirvana. Bands from the 90s that I like is pretty centered around Hickey, the Bananas and the 4 Eyes.

  6. Yeah seeing the Germs, especially at a tiny place like the Swill, seems f'n rad, I was being a bastard.

  7. I was planning on going to Capitol Bowl until I found out about this show.

I figure it'll sell out pretty quick and be filled with a bunch of annoying fuckwits. Still, it's the Germs at a small club.

  8. I can't decide about the Germs show. On one hand it'd be rad to see all those members of the Germs, and just to see Pat Smear in general, but on the other hand it'll probably be super packed of people that make me nervous, and it's not REALLY seeing the Germs. There's a good chance in the end I'll be a little disapointed if I go to the Distillery, but I think the Knock Knock/ English Singles pretty much gaurantees a good time. Plus Distillery shows rarely start before 10:30 or so, and I bet there's some lame opening bands, so I bet it'll be possible to cruise by after the other show and catch something worth seeing.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but when will the English Singles release a recording? I always get those songs stuck in my head.

Yeah, uh, we're getting right on it. Actually we do have a tentative recording plan - hopefully it pans out.

  10. Yeah, you'd think by now they could cobble together at least two songs and release them, as I don't know...a cassingle or something.

  12. Will the English Singles be recording any Germs songs?

  13. The English Cassingles you mean?

  14. By the way, my Four Eyes Cassingle didn't have an A side (or rather, there was nothing on the A side.) You guys didn't think anyone would have a tape player, did you?

The opening band, Oh Wait Too Late, has promised to play "You Can Call Me Al" in my honor at the 300 room. Well, maybe not in my honor, but I feel it's time that song and myself received the recognition we deserve. Anyway, West Capitol Bowl for people who miss the Germs.

Biz, English Cassingles have unearthed 2 songs - I'll get you a CD & cover art tomorrow - they better be ready for the show Friday! And they better have some music on them.

  22. No thanks, I think it'll be worth more money one day when I sell it on ebay. I'm gonna put it up with the copy of Sweet Sounds without oldest dude in the world, and a copy of Five Songs that's missing the disc all together. One thing that Antiques Roadshow taught me is that selling collections together fetches a higher price.
