You guys probably all heard that Ray Kerridge is resigning. Smiller emailed me "I'm sure KJ's fiancee will do a great job". He's joking, right?
The first annual Sacramento Beer Week starts next Monday!!!! It kicks off with an event at the Colonial Theater featuring a talk by none other than Mr. Ed C.! He'll be talking about his book City of a Beer: Sacramento's Breweries. It's ten bucks and you get beer, including from Odonata brewery. Details here. There's also a special supplement in this weeks SNR, including a roundtable discussion that I hosted with the Sac hopheads.
Here we have a picture of Ol' Man Foster, tripping ballz, circa 1987. Peep that shirt!
I highly recommend the Ernist Lubitsch film "Trouble in Paradise" starring these two lovely ladies. It's really funny. It seems like maybe the Armeniac would like it? And maybe Barnseyard because of the lack of foundation garments.
This picture of OMF is making me so happy!

I like that Foster actually washed his hair as a dirty hippie. Probably the last time.

Oh also I liked your article. Map nerds, however, are demanding restitution for the blatant disregard of all cartographic conventions on the centerfold. Actually let's just call it an illustration, not a map and then I won't have to storm the SNR offices chanting "River names should be italic serif fonts! River names should be italic serif fonts!"
ReplyDeletemap nerd is wearing a map
well you can't have a strong mayor AND a city manager.
ReplyDeletethis is bad news. Kerridge was a decent guy who meant well. he wasn't the one dimensional pro-development nut that he was often pegged as.
you can bet his replacement will be much worse. especially if it ends up being the strong mayor himself.
I bought that shirt in the parking lot of the Dylan & the Dead show at the oakland colisseum. Twenty-three years and 1000+ concerts later, the Dead still reign supreme as the worst band I've ever seen.

Speaking of the city & OMF & "worst", has anyone else seen the new newspaper racks on K street? It's hard to describe just how ugly they are. And inappropriately placed - I saw one blocking the usual pedestrian path and two blocking bicycle racks. That's all in one block. Has MidMo gotten to choose which ones they'll get to use?
ReplyDeleteWe get one at 12th and K.
ReplyDeleteThis project (paid for with city money, folks) gets my bid for 'second worst use of city funds.' Number One worst use? the city paying SNR for the 'art' they put on on the sides of the boxes- but the artists get -none- of that money. LAME.

I saw a truck carrying a bunch of them on my way to work. I thought he was transporting old video games at first.

Tim,
ReplyDeleteWas that photo taken at McKinley Park?

Capitol Park. I lived in the Merriam Building (RIP) that was two blocks away.

And I need those wine picks!
ReplyDeleteI know! I know!!!

Don't lie Tim. I know your dirty deadhead secret. You doth protest too much!
ReplyDeleteBesides, you already told me the worst band you've ever seen is Be Brave Bold Robot.
ReplyDelete-miller
Worst -local- band i've ever seen is definitely Be Brave Bold Robot. But they didn't make me go sleep on a bench at the back of a stadium til the show was over. The Dead did.
ReplyDelete-omf
You know, I was at that same Dead/Dylan show & I fell asleep too! I'd say Dylan backed by the Dead was even more boring than the Dead.
ReplyDeleteThe Dead didn't make you go to sleep on a bench. It was the kind buds. duh.
ReplyDeletegbomb
oh snap!
ReplyDeleteLiv just explained what 'tripping ballz' and 'kind buds' are.
ReplyDeleteyou crazy kids.
