take it off

I went to a ladies night gathering on Saturday, so of course we ate pizza and watched an episode of Magnum, P.I. I never liked that show when I was a kid, but I didn't remember why. Now I know. Magnum is a loser and kind of a dick! And he doesn't take his shirt off often enough.

Speaking of taking shirts off: Halloween show. What are the bands?

  3. The City Council is going to vote tomorrow about whether to designate a stretch of Stockton Blvd. as Little Saigon. I hope it passes! That's so cool.

Big Brother & the Holding Company (not Janins Joplin - how many times do we have to tell people we're more than just Janis's backing band?!?!) are in. I didn't spend Saturday night listening to Cheap Thrills until I was sure.

OK, Janis Joplin and her backing band, check.

Will someone please twist Danny's arm until he agrees to do the Beach Boys?

    Thx,

Charles, Maxwell, and myself are doing an early Metallica band.
4th member will be from the winner of a Facebook survey. We haven't practiced yet.

If by early Metallica you mean "Some kind of Monster" era Metallica then I'm in. In fact, we can just re-inact scenes from Some Kind of Monster.

  14. I'm pretty sure neither Boyd Rice nor the Four Eyes have put out a gold record. Making me wonder if they truly are California gold. Probably the same for the Zeros. I guess we'll need some fools gold too though.

    Here's what I'm in on:
Big Brother and the Holding Company
    Janes Addiction
and possibly Body Count (Joel is really pushing for this one and he's hard to say no to, but it's not for sure)

    PS
Oh and Magnum's charm for me was that he was really a complete lay-about who never really worked hard, but got a lot of glory and a chance to live in Paradise. The American dream really. Oh and that car was SICK! I'd say ask any ten year old today and they'd probably still think that was a sweet ride. I'm sure my mom would have agreed with you on that shirt thing, but that wasn't what I loved about Magnum. Actually here's a short list off the top of my head of things I loved about Magnum PI
    1 Ferrari
2 Friend with a helicopter (COOOL!)
3 Rick's friends and informants (Icepick!!)
4 Higgins' dogs: Zeus and Apollo. Scary, but lovable
5 Not knowing who Higgins and Magnum really worked for.
    6 Viet Nam flashbacks
7 Magnum was sooooo lazy and reluctant to really do anything about anything, but always came through in the end
8 Hawaii!!!! So tropical and mind blowing to my childhood world (Denver Suburb)
9 Oh man I almost forgot that moustache. The Moustache!!
10 Shirt optional sure, but shorts only had one setting and that was SHORT!!

  15. Oh man if you're doing "Some kind of Monster" era Metallica I insist on being Bob Rock. I don't even have to play I'll just look all sad and proud with a lousy skull and crossbones sweater on the side of the stage.

  17. I love a Higgins butt anywhere I can get it, especially in the front. It always makes for an extra hot tai chi scene

It's not California Gold as much as California bands, people who like unpopular bands petitioned not to have two gold record themes in a row.

    Good Day!

  20. "California Bands"... I'll run that by Huell Howser and see what he thinks of it. Maybe he might wanna have a show called "California's Stuff"
Really I don't mind it being so open, and frankly it's not up to me. I just thought the lines were drawn differently. I also cannot help but be a complete smart ass whenever any opportunity arises. I'm sorry that people that like unpopular things had been feeling left out. Perhaps if they liked popular things....
