amazeballs?

So...I want some feedback on our next Captain Trips Presents at The Hub. To remind you, we're showing the Kult Klassic El Topo August 24th at the Hub at 7:30 for three measly bucks. I have seen Holy Mountain, so I know how amazeballs (ha! I'm just using that word to annoy smiller) it is, but probably some of you have never seen a Jodorowsky film, and to be honest, spaghetti westerns are not my favorite genre at all. In fact, I don't like westerns and like spaghetti westerns only slightly more. Oddly, I watched a lot of the Clint Eastwood spag westerns as a child because my mom loved them. And they are boring.

I guess what I want is to hear from you guys that are interested in coming to our screenings sometimes and whether you are thinking of coming to this one or skipping it. I'm going to put up a poll tomorrow. But first, I'd like to hear from anybody who wants to convince you (and me) that this movie is amazeballs.

I'm OK with AMAZEBALLS as long as you say it while air-guitaring.

Q: have you ever smelled moth balls?
    A: yes
Q: how did you get his little legs apart?

I'd like to put in my 2 cents today. I would love to come to more screenings! But I've seen El Topo and I didn't like it. I'm guessing I won't like Holy Mountain, but I'll watch it just so I can say with certainty that I don't like Jodorowski.

I want to see El Topo. It's on Ebert's Great Movies list, which you all know I am watching. The problem is that I will just be getting home from visiting my dear old mom. I think I will be back in time to feed the dogs and make the movie. they love it when I leave for 5 days, come home for 5 minutes and then leave again.

All I know is I loved Holy Mountain & I usually have no patience for the plotless nonsense that Netflix typically drops through our mail slot.

  10. see, I'm thinking we should show holy mountain? I will try to talk liv into it when we pre-screen it. her p.o.v. is that el topo has more of a plot.

  14. look, if we're gonna force people to watch this crap, the least we can do is not make it a spaghetti western. wait, are other people reading this?

I can't wait to see what constitutes "more of a plot". I'm guessing it's 2 things happening in a row that remotely relate to one another.

  19. my understanding of facebook is that a lot of it is about enthusiasm for things you won't actually attend. and then you poke people?

    ReplyDelete
  20. oh yes. you poke them.

  21. it's not funny to pretend you don't what facebook is, right? how about pretending you don't know what twitter is? is that still funny?

  23. you're probably at your house watching some boring western. I know you love westerns. In fact, when I try to watch one it's usually because
I think I should because you liked it.

  25. Personally I liked The Holy Mountain more than El Topo, but both are worthy. Fando Y Lis is pretty painfully slow, and "The Rainbow Thief" was fairly unwatchable. I am told "Tusk" is worse.

I will be at the event, and if I really feel up for it I will bring matzoh and salsa to celebrate Jodorowsky's Mexican/Jewish heritage.

Assuming I can get my act together I will convert my really bad fifth-generation VHS tape of the trailer for the never-completed "The Incal" (Moebius/Jodorowsky comic book) animated film to DVD if you'd be willing to show it as a never-coming attraction.

  26. I totally want to show it and have you explain what you know about it! I have a VCR that I could bring but I guess we will need a DVD since we need a way to show it on the projector.
