Hi guys
This is always the time of year when things get slooowwwww on the blog. I'm not at work all week. Here's my Zelda's post on Slice. I struggled with this one and got my first version rejected! But the editor was right. I am just not used to writing reviews where I have to focus so intensively on one thing, and I keep trying to sneak in other stuff and the editor keeps taking it out. She didn't use a picture of the spinnocoli I took that I really like, so I will post it when I am in office.
WORST WEEK! EVERY YEAR! SO BORING!
ReplyDelete-MILLER
SOOOOOOO BOOOOOORED!!!!!
ReplyDelete-MILLER
Think of it as an opportunity to plot your Die Kruezen set list for the Midwest Theme Show.
ReplyDelete-Jed
TOOOO BOOOORED TO THIIIINK!!!!
ReplyDelete-MILLER
OK, let's talk about the show. Cheap Trick, The Pretenders, Steve Miller, The Replacements, White Stripes, The Breeders, and who else?
ReplyDeleteCharles, tell T. that The Pretenders are taken, so she should do Steve Miller.
Feb 19th.
g
Man, didn't we just have a White Stripes? That shit needs to be shot down.
ReplyDelete-biz
Little known fact about the Grateful Dead: they're from the midwest.
ReplyDelete-miller
isn't someone doing the flaming lips?
ReplyDeleteYes, someone is doing the Flaming Lips. Who?
ReplyDeleteI forgot about White Stripes, usually I have a pretty good memory. Maybe because last year I hardly got to watch the show at all.
And Charles is doing some punk bank I have never heard of.
Who are the Grateful Dead?
g
Devo and Guided by Voices are from Ohio. A bunch of the alt-country bands are from the midwest, but there's probably nothing funny about doing any of those covers.
ReplyDeleteThere are a bunch of the Amp Rep bands, but it would be really hard to sound any shittier than the God Bullies already sounded. The Albini bands would be game.
Jed
I can't think of any midwest bands I want to do so I'm googling shit like "what bands are from Iowa". I came across a wikianswers page that goes like this:
ReplyDeleteQ: What bands are from Iowa?
A: Slipknot.
-miller
I am involved in the Flaming lips.
ReplyDeleteWhat that means is anyones guess but damm it we called it.
-Natalie.
I'm gonna try and get an Alice Cooper band together w Portland dudes, hopefully the travel will work for everyone.
ReplyDeleteSteve Miller? I thought he was a Frisco bro.
Can't forget the king of the Northern Midwest Bob Seger!
Also Amber needs to do a Mowtown singer.
PS: Can't wait to see the Dead again this year! They really bring the authentic feel of the Midwest to their music. Especially Pigpen, Midwest as they get right there.
ReplyDeleteAmber is Chrissy Hinds. It will rule.
ReplyDeleteFlaming Lips - noted!
g
Oh yeah, The Stooges and MC5. Finally, someone will have a real excuse to cover "I Wanna Be Your Dog."
ReplyDeleteJed
Miller left the group to go to San Francisco where the psychedelic scene was flourishing. He then formed the Steve Miller Blues Band which, when they contracted with Capitol Records in 1967, they shortened their name to the Steve Miller Band.
ReplyDeleteI'm leaning towards Tommy James. Or maybe 1/2 Japanese.
ReplyDelete-miller
I'll totally do 1/2 Japanese with you.
ReplyDelete-biz
How sacred is the geographical theme of these Halloween shows? I see bands from Arizona, Oklahoma, and Maryland being talked about here.
ReplyDeleteI also wanna remind MattyRob about Crucifucks. Get it together!!
Gonna start hoarding Faygo for that night's Faux Loko recipe.
How sacred? Let's just say if someone called the Beatles this year it would be a go.
ReplyDelete-miller
I know Iggy and the Stooges is a go. I am slowly morphing into Tina Turner Black Swan style, so I can do Ike and Tina Turner.
ReplyDeleteOklahoma is Midwest.
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot ICP.
There are rules, but they are always broken and there is little recrimination, as seen the year that the Dead were defined as a "Yacht rock" band.
BUT, I do arrange the lineup and I get to pick who plays early. A small power, but I relish it nonetheless.
g
Power trips and the Doo Dah man.
ReplyDeleteKilldozer? Big Black? Ministry? Naked Raygun?
ReplyDeleteGuphy, the punk band "you've never heard of" is MDC.
ReplyDeleteMe & Ed called it. I am also working on a Husker Du.
Charles
What? So the dead can play year after year, but we can't do the white stripes?
ReplyDeleteThen I call Bryan Adams.
Midwest Canada!
jamattack
I think the dead is a joke.
ReplyDeleteSeeing the White Stripes again is no joke.
Can I open the show by singing the Star Spangled Banner in the style of Roseanne?
ReplyDeleteYes, Becky you can, esp. if you also do "Clevland Rocks!" in Drew Carey style.
ReplyDeleteYou go on at 4:30.
g
uh, yes. please do!
ReplyDeleteYawwwwwwwwnnnnn! Guess I'll go read SacRag...
ReplyDelete-DB
I think you should.
ReplyDeleteand I will dress as your Tom Arnold.
-Natalie.
The Dazz Band from Toledo, Ohio, are playing their hit songs "Let it Whip", "Joystick", and "Let it All Blow" here in Sacto at the Radisson on New Years Eve. I used to love breakdancing to my Dazz Band cassette some 27 years ago! (Hint: I might just hafta breakdance for the first time in 25 years if someone does the Dazz Band.)
ReplyDeleteChristine and I are calling the Jackson 5.
ReplyDeleteCharles
Ah but it's not so easy to just say Hüsker Dü, since there's a big split between the songs Bob Mould wrote versus Grant Hart. Hart may be a fat, pretentious junkie but he continues to write some of the best mindblowing psychedelia and power pop ever.
ReplyDeleteAlso if you're talking TwinTone, no love for the Mats?! Somebody outta recreate the classic show at the old UCD Coffee House where they got so drunk they trashed their dressing room, bailed before the UCD police could arrest them, and ended up drunk and wandering around Poleline looking for an after party.
Hi Scott-
ReplyDeleteAKA the only person at work today. I've been searching flights to Europe and 900 is the cheapest I can find. Sucks.
Maxwell's doing the Replacements - right? RIGHT???
ReplyDelete-miller
Whoah, we commented at the same time. Is Priceline 'name your price' something people even do anymore??
ReplyDelete-miller
Maxwell has been doing Wessterberg for years, but on Feb 19th he will do Westerberg's songs in the style of Westerberg.
ReplyDeleteWhich is really what I wanted when I chose the theme.
g
And Mellencamp.
ReplyDeleteg
Reo Speedwagon.
ReplyDeleteI am just keeping track here, sorry. I will write the bands down later today.
g
18 bands claimed.
