As we can all tell, all the action is over at the Halloween blog, although it ate my last two comments. Maybe it is being taxed by the constant flood of comments.
Here's some video of the MidMo March cover shoot, featuring Knock Knock.
P.S. you guys know about the Finches show on Thursday, right? It's been moved to Javalounge.
I don't have a gripe of the day. My stoked of the day is that last night I read 200 pages of the novel "How to sell" and it is fucking gripping. Maybe a gripe will develop later.
ReplyDeleteAny of you out there traveled to Scandinavia? What if I took a trip to Denmark and Norway and didn't go to Sweden. Would that be crazy? Any tips? Must-see cities?
ReplyDeleteStockholm!
ReplyDeleteAt least you have a grip of the day.
ReplyDelete-miller
Stockholm why?
ReplyDeletereason: Millenium trilogy
ReplyDeleteso I'll get raped and then tattoo a guy in revenge? no thanks. is this a bad joke or just a bad idea comment in general?
ReplyDeleteNo Sweden means you would miss Haga palace, Rosendal and Drottningholm - with the chinese pavilion and insane guard's tent made of metal! Before you decide to skip it, you might wanna check out the excellent book "Neoclassicism in the North" by Hakan Groth.
ReplyDeleteThe bad part is going there is going to make your trip more expensive.
ella -historical dork.
"...you might wanna check out the excellent book "Neoclassicism in the North" by Hakan Groth."
ReplyDeleteAin't gonna happen!

It's weird I've always been really psyched on the idea of Scandinavia but was never quite as psyched when I was actually there. It was too non-foreign somehow. Though now I'm picturing it and I can't explain why I had that feeling since there are some really cool cities.
ReplyDeleteStockholm and Goteborg are both pretty cool, but I think you could get away with Denmark and Norway. Denmark for Copehhagen and Norway for just the most beautiful countryside anywhere. Sweden is slightly less interesting from a nature standpoint, I think, but does have cool cities.
Of course, I've mostly been passing through and spending one day in each place, so I guess my impressions are based on a shallow experience of the places.
JD
can I look at that book when I'm at your place?
ReplyDeleteI like Sweden a lot. Alvar Aalto-like bent wood furniture is everywhere and the average Stockholm citizen looks like a supermodel. On the downer side, it is REALLY expensive... but not even close to Norway which was crazy crazy expensive.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever been to southern Europe?
-omf
Sure you can look at that book.
ReplyDeleteI love the name Hakan Groth. I'm so glad you are coming down here!

Quit saying it's so expensive! You're the only one that's got me freaked out to go by your story of the 50 dollar big mac or whatever. Is it that much more expensive than London or Tokyo? Please say no.
ReplyDeleteI've been to Italy and Spain, why?
I've budgeted $500 per day for food - will that be enough?
ReplyDelete-miller
only if we eat at McDonalds every day.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Japan so I don't know, but my recollection is that Norway was much more expensive than London. Just wondering why northern Europe again - you seem to go so often! I love the nordic countries, I just love the southern countries more.
ReplyDelete-omf
It starts with 'B' & ends with 'REW'.
ReplyDelete-miller
It can't be more expensive because there's no way I can afford it then, and I'm going there, so therefore it can't be more expensive. Circular logic. Scandinavia is kinda where it's at, culinary and beerwise right now. I want to eat so much smoked and pickled fish that I get sick of it.
ReplyDeleteAre you gonna try to go to Noma?
ReplyDeleteMargs
What happened to SE Asia? Heckacheap.
ReplyDeleteJed
I know that Norway being so expensive has something to do with the average income being around $55K and there being a high standard of living.
ReplyDelete-skpr
I would say no Scandinavian country is more expensive than the other, they're all expensive even Mcdonalds! THough Mcdonalds in Norway is amazingly delicious! Sweden is very pretty, and may be funner than Norway unless yr seeing the fjords in Norway or my sister's family! BTW if ya want to see my sis in Norway lemme know, I'm sure she'd like it!!
ReplyDeleteI think I will try to go to at least one nice dinner from some disciple of the guy from Noma. Not only is that restaurant crazy expensive, but it would be a fight to get a reservations, however, lots of his past chefs have opened places and I've been saving the culinary magazines with stuff about him in there. I'm also going to go to his favorite old-school restaurant, I can't remember the name.
ReplyDeleteDP, your sister lives in Oslo, right? We are definitely going there, and I hope to rent a car to go the fjord area in the west.
I know I could have planned a cheaper vacation. My last vacation was Mexico. We're going for a specific brewfest in Copenhagen.
How irritating are we that we're going to Copenhagen for a beer festival & complaining that it will be expensive!
ReplyDelete-miller
I'll throw in a vote for Helsinki, although I've never been to Norway. I took the overnight boat from Stockholm which is pretty fun, if you want to see the Swedes getting really drunk and gamble. (For some reason the boat technically leaves the E.U. so all the drink taxes go away)
ReplyDeleteHelsinki is really cool city in terms of design; I stayed with locals.
I'm not complaining, I'm just trying to ascertain how expensive it is going to be so I know how often my meal is going to consist of bread and cheese, and maybe some herring.
ReplyDeleteWe probably won't make it to Finland, but then again, I don't know if we'll end up taking easyjet or something like that.
