fuck the phenomenauts

Bananas at Gilman was almost single-handedly ruined by the Bananas best friend and worst enemy, who is a dangerous superfan that I shall not name here (you guys don't know him and I wouldn't want to embarass him too much if he should happen upon this entry). Next time Mike R. Mike is going to bring a set of handcuffs so that we can safely shackle him to something. This way, he can watch but he can't ruin the show by taking the mic away from Mike and/or tacking him periodically. By the end of the show the superfan was being held down by four different people, one on each limb. Oh yeah, and I hope some Phenomenauts fans read this so they will know that that band is the biggest bunch of jerks and total Ds ever. Way to drive a giant bus to your show in Berkeley when you live in Berkeley. Way to sell craploads of terrible looking merch plastered with your logo that is a weak ripoff of the Pixies logo. Way to have terrible songs about robots in space. Way to play forever even though the show was running late. Way to pull a rock star trip and rant at the poor Gilman guy about how the set up was unprofessional and how you don't do it for the money, you do it for the kids. Well, the Bananas are also in it for the kids, because the kids have the money, and you may have heard that first you get hard, then you get the money (too bad Dillon doesn't read heckasac). P.S. your website looks like shit, just like all your hideous merch.

I pussed out on going to the Alkali Flats but I heard it was really fun so I wish I had gone.

Champagne brunch on the Delta King was fucking fun and I highly recommend it. The "champagne" flows very freely and food was pretty darn good. And you are on a boat so you can say ahoy and pretend your food is asking you for permission to come aboard. I found out that the Delta King has a regular bar and I plan to go there a lot when the weather gets warmer. I think you can take your drinks outside.

  1. for some reason my sis, brother-in-law and i decided to go get a drink on the delta king before heading to the xmas festivities at my grandma's on dec. 25th. there were a bunch of salty dogs hanging out in the bar throwing 'em back at noon. i really like that bar. on that day in particular there was a ton of water and debris floating down the sac river due to the storms so it felt like we were on a really huge river. also, our waitress was extremely plucky in a kinda scary way.

Don't forget about The Steroid Thug who stood on the stage and menaced everyone during the Bananas. Occasionally taking a time-out by stage diving and crushing the crowd.

    Like a Gilman Rollins.

Like a 17 year old Gilman Rollins with braces, spider web tatoos on his elbows, and a psycho billy haircut. Very amusing...

You were a bit harsh on the Phenomenauts eh? I mean, their site does feature TWO pics of girls with airline style wing pins pinned to their t-shirts over their nipples. It don't get much classier than that.

I've been drinking in the Delta King bar for years. I LOVE IT!!! In fact, I was there the other night. You can take your drinks outside. I'd also recommend trying the Pilothouse Restaurant and staying the night. The rooms are charming. You have to pull a chain to flush the toilet.

Yeah, having a drink on the deck of the Delta King is tops on my list of things to do on a summer night. If you go midweek it's much less crowded.

Speaking of the river, has anyone spent time in Port Costa? My friend is gathering a bunch of people to spend a night at the brothel there. What else is good to do around there?

Port Costa rules! Between the bar & the hotel, you should be entertained. Their beer list is INSANE! They have around 300 brews on it. It's alphabetised by country! There's not much else to do in P.C. - it's super tiny.

300 beers? OK, yeah I guess that's all the entertainment anyone needs. Also, Matt Roberts might be in attendance. So, 300 beers plus Matt equals a good time.

Port Costa is definetely a good time. Careful of the dead whore ghosts at the "hotel".

  12. ooo, you can, and should, take your drinks outside on the Delta King. knock back a good number and then float over to the BackDoor.

this is mostly done on the weekdays, since the weekends draw so many yahoos to Old Sac.

there's so much Kings paraphenilia at the bar...i wonder if it'd be a decent spot to watch a game?

funny Dani. like so many before me, i was thinking of going to PC for my birthday this year....i'm no regular. but after hearing so many good stories, i finally went and loved every second of it.

We spent our birthday at Port Costa in November, it was great. The haunted whore hotel is something to behold and the bar across the street is a lot of fun. We tried to go for New Years but, of course, it was booked months in advance. My boyfriends dad used to live in Benecia in the 60's and told us that he had a home made canoe that he would row across to the Warehouse (the bar) and then drunkenly row back at 2am in the black waters! Nuts.

wow dude, real harsh on the phenomenauts. i know you're just itching to have a fan comment so you can tear him/her apart, well i'm glad to be the first. first off, that huge bus is pretty much their only means of transport since their van is broken down. second, if you don't like their song, ok, thats your choice. but you don't have to be a jerk about it. and so their merch isn't what your used to. but we, the people who are into the band, love it. and if you don't then just keep walking past the table and forget about it. why make a big deal?

You know if you are gonna bitch about something you should atleast get your facts straight. First of all the Phenomenauts don't live in Berkeley, they live in Oakland. The used to have a regular van, but it blew up. Just so you know, the doors at the Gilman were opened 45 minutes late, so therefore the show ran late. That was the reason for the "rockstar" rant. I hate to break it to you but 90% of the people at that show were there to see the Phenomenauts. So it was unfair for those kids to only see half the show before their parents came to pick them up. Their set was no longer than it would have been if the show had been on time. Bands don't make any money playing at Gilman, so the ones who play there do do it for the kids. What I want to know is why you chose to stay through their whole set if they disgust you so much. Personally I could care less if you like them or not, but I hate people who choose to bitch about things that have no relevancy. If you don't like them, leave. Don't buy their merch, and don't go to their shows. It's as simple as that.

i am extremely amused by you. dont you have anything better to do than bitch about a band? and if you are going to do that, you might as well get the facts right!

  18. The Phenomenauts are one Hell of a band. I suggest you don't post things where fans like me can shoot you down right away. They're laughing their way to the bank, and are passionate about their career. The merchandise is all part of the band, you fucking idiot.

  19. They also pulled somewhat of a Beatles move--they snuck into the VIP concert and plugged in their own amps (so the cops couldnt shut them down when they tried to, which they did)and got away playing 3 of their own songs...and got away with a bunch of beer.
Now THAT is an admirable move :)
    =P=
P.s. I had the great fortune of meeting Angel Nova, guitarist and singer of the band. very down to earth group.
