exploding head bloggery

Hmmm...so I toned down this post so I wouldn't catch a bunch of shit for it. I won't go into specifics of why the skyscraper page is making my head feel like it's going to explode. However, I have a question about a statement on there:

I was listening to the K Street meeting today, and there was a speaker that really caught my attention. His name was Jim Brennan, he the one that is renovating the Atkins Building at 10th and K in the office condos and ground floor restaurant. He said he has also acquired the Kress Building, 920, 924, 930 K Street (which are the 3 buildings on south-west most corner of 10th and K) and the most intriguing, The Crest Theater. He said they are going to reposition The Crest into a performing art center. He's a Juilliard School Grad that has done projects in the Gaslamp, SOMA and was the main driver behind getting Louise Davies for seed money for the Louise Davies Symphony Hall in SF, along with work on the Opera House and Ballet Building in SF.Seeing The Crest as a performing arts center would be a pretty darn cool thing. One down side though would be I'm not sure they would still show films

This can't be true about the Crest, right? Anyone? Charles?

So remember, if your boss tells you you've been repositioned, it means you're fired.

The Crest as a "performing arts center"? This from some effete dickwhistle from out of town who emptied that building at 10th and J of all the nonprofits so he could "reposition" it as a cute li'l boutique hotel for people who are not nonprofit? Guess we can say goodbye to another beloved chunk of our downtown experience. Fuck it. I don't need movie theaters. I'll just wait and rent 'em from Netflix. And lord knows there's a whole bunch of 1,000-seat venues around town for live music, and the Trash Film Orgy? As Der Governator might put it, "Zat freeeky event eez not ze magnet fuhr ze kihnt ov peepl vee are tryink to bring eento Saakhramoento ..."

Bye bye, hometown. You're really starting to suck.

I don't think it's the same person as the 10th/J boutique hotel guy, but I could be wrong. I'm too lazy to look it up.

  10. We'll have to wait and see, but I'd put my money on the ownership of The Crest having very little effect on the management of The Crest. So let's take a deep breath (a certain poster here in particular) and not go freaking out yet.

In the unlikely event that The Crest is made to suck, I will join you in freaking out proper.
