four toes and a funny hat

Awesome!

I've been asked to link to this article.  I've requested more information about what we can do to help, so that should be forthcoming.

  4. Alright, a picture of my old house is burning in the photo slides.

In all seriousness, where can I send a letter to help out the Fire Fighters? When our house burnt, there was already a shortage of fire fighters because of the So Cal fires.

    Tomorrow! Friday, 3/6

    Breakfast With Hunter

    7 and 9:30 PM

    Admission: Free

Location: 600 4th St, West Sacramento. That's the corner of 4th & F in WEST Sacramento, just over the river from downtown Sacto. Parking lot is off of F Street between 4th & 5th Streets.

We showed this over a year ago and admission was free. We're doing it again for those who missed it or who want to see it again! And again - it will be free admission to thank all of the friends and supporters of MOBS!

If you haven't heard of this, we wouldn't be completely surprised, but it has been acclaimed as one of the best documentaries on Hunter, featuring Johnny Depp, John Cusack, Benecio del Toro, Ralph Steadman, Alex Cox, PJ O'Rourke, Terry Gilliam, Warren Zevon (briefly), Jan Wenner and many others.

Long-time close friend and associate of Hunter, Wayne Ewing (director of numerous PBS docs for Bill Moyers) was allowed to film Hunter over a number of years. "Breakfast With Hunter" focuses primarily on the years leading up to and through the filming of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," as well as documenting the trumped up DUI charge against Thompson in 1995. Free of narration, Wayne's camera captured Hunter like no one else has, including footage of the good doctor causing chaos in the Rolling Stone offices, Hunter and Johnny Depp shooting heavy weaponry, and the infamous ugly script meeting with Alex Cox and Todd Davies where discussion quickly turned uncomfortably dangerous.

And again, this is a free screening.

    Hope to see you there!

    Hecka or anybody else-
I'm gonna be in the Mission on Sunday. Where is a good place to eat? or something I couldn't find in Sac? I rarely go to SF and don't want to miss an opportunity for good food.

    Thanks,
    Anna

Boos Vooni -- torta place waaaaay the fuck down Mission. If you were in the Fruitvale district (the real Mission, DUDE) you could get caramel-filled churros!

  12. and while novel, and awesome, there's got to be something more mind-blowing to be had in the mission. it's weird, but i hardly know any places to eat in sf.

Yeah, Indian pizza from Zante's is great. Also, you have to go to Bi-Rite creamery on 18th @ Delores. The Salted Caramel is incredible, but really all the flavors are beyond awesome. Pizzeria Delfina or Delfina itself are my favorites.

  14. Delfina use the yelp 1 star reviews for shirts.

"The pizza was soooo greasy. I am assuming this was in part due to the pig fat"

    "This place sucks"

I love Esperpento for tapas. It's nicely priced too.

What's the name of that place with the great pastries and grilled cheese sandwiches? Tartine? I loved it and I would go there again. I think it's near Delfina (also good) and Bi-Rite.

Thank you all for those great suggestions! We are going to meet my buddy at Mi Lindo Yucatan. That is kind of place I had in mind. Thanks Scott!

  19. Let us know what you thought. I like that place because the food is so different than typical Mexican. Pumpking seeds and turkey?!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Pumpkin seeds and turkey sounds like it's maybe southern Mexico - I've had stuff like that in Oaxaca & Chiapas

    ReplyDelete
  21. OK, am I getting the cuisine of the Yucatan and Oaxaca mixed up?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hey my verification word is platicas! This thing is smarter than one would think.

Somebody like Diana Kennedy would be a better judge of which is distinctive to what state cuisine. But I would imagine that there's some overlap since it's the Southeastern part of the country. Personally, I didn't really notice anything terrible unique or exciting about food in the Yucatan, though I was more focused on getting to the beach. However it was pretty hard to avoid amazing food when I was in Oaxaca - even the hole in the wall places make amazing mole sauces that will ruin you for being happy with Guadelajara style taquerias.

I don't understand how anyone can dismiss poc chuc (the chicken-fried steak of the Yucatan)as unexciting.

I thought the place was very cute and was a good fit for our party that included a toddler and a 20-something punkie guy, but I probably should have ordered something different. I saw that they had tamales wrapped in banana leaves and ordered two different types. It was a bit of masa overload and the chicken seasoned with something sour, not so much citrus-y, more like sour milk. I've been craving Puerto Rican tamale-like Pasteles which are also wrapped in banana leaves and I though this might fill that need but it was completely different. My friend ordered a black mole turkey dish and it hilariously looked like food in a black and white movie. Erik loved his pork dish, adobo I think. The tortillas seemed handmade. What do you guys get there?

It was really nice being in SF, first time in two years! Matea's first time ever which is crazy to me because she has already been to LA and SD.
