Thanks to Amanda for the wonderful portrait of me and Scott. I commissioned it for a very reasonable price. Get ahold of her through her website (linked at right under Best Summer Ever) or FB if you'd like to do the same.
Brew Awareness after the jump
Brew Awareness! Jesus H. Christ this Cantillon Mamouche is delicious. It's made with elder flowers! Are those the same as elder berries? Because don't we have a lot of those growing down by the river? I don't know why I'm mentioning that.
Scott had a birthday but Babs got the present of playing in the wrappings. Forty one. It's a sporty one. There was a Two Rivers Cider night at OneSpeed that was fun. A bunch of strong, barrel-aged ciders. I meant to bring the piece of paper with the descriptions. I really one loved one of the four. OneSpeed has Sculpin on tap, and that's always tasty.
OK, so I went to the Goodwill on Franklin and Florin, and at first I was annoyed at how Halloween-ed out it is (they are seriously trying to horn in on this market), but after a while I was overcome with admiration at how much the employees are getting into the spirit. The displays are seriously scary. Look at this Exorcist one! Fuck!
Gross murders scene with a person with a collapsed face.
Bud's is so good. Pastrami half sandwich. One really only needs half. With hot peppers for 50 cents extra.
The Anchor Steam really put it over the top to be the perfect meal.

Starcrash
The notorious and legendarily horrible Italian Star Wars rip-off! And - nationally syndicated late night horror host, Cinema Insomnia's Mr. Lobo will be on-hand to help guide you through this mess!
The story begins "familiarly" enough, with a huge spaceship tracking through an extremely colorful space scene while under attack by some kind of unknown and deadly lava lamp wax? Being no match for the '60s acid-flashback rays, the ship's passengers manage to jettison a few escape pods just before being blown to kingdom come. Then, moving to the other end of the galaxy, we find the best smugglers in town -- gorgeous Stella Star (Caroline Munro) and space-pimp Akton (Marjoe Gortner) -- outrunning a band of cops on their tail. Eventually, they're caught and sentenced to intense Labor Camps, where Stella gets to change into a skimpy outfit. A break-out ensues, and in the "intense" laser shoot-out, Stella manages to escape, only to be captured again by the semi-green-skinned Thor (Robert Tessier) and his annoying southern-drawled robot, Elle (voiced by genre veteran Hamilton Camp).
Brought in front of the Emperor of the Galaxy (Christopher Plummer) and reunited with Akton, the sexy duo find themselves suddenly in charge of finding Prince Simon (David Hasselhoff). Thus begins the heroes' "amazing" adventure through space and time as they search for Prince Simon and end up fighting Amazons, Cavemen, and the Evil Count Zarth Arn (Joe Spinell) along the way.
You will be stunned. Oh yes. Stunned.
The elderberries down by the river are the same plant! You can harvest the flowers in the spring. Last time I was on the trail there were zillions of the berries all ready for picking (I didn't pick any because I was out for a run). Hank Shaw has quite a few recipes and ideas for them on his site, though the berries sound like kind of a pain to process. I would love to catch the blossoms next spring and make homemade elderflower liqueur (Hank has a recipe for that, too: http://tinyurl.com/2vywa6z ).
love that portrait of you two! so good!
aw shucks! I am beyond relieved that you two like it.
