Barf!! These same statements would not be true if we were talking about apartments. Only "lofts". I haven't noticed a lot of "urban energy" in my neighborhood, unless by that you mean "old people obsessively raking and re-raking leaves". I often wonder where they are getting the energy to creat these giant leaf piles that completely block all parking spaces in the street. I guess they must be tapping into the urban loft energy of the R street corridor! These people are giving lofting a bad name!

Becky, I forgot to tell you what I saw the other day right after it had rained. I was driving home from work, it was dark, the streets were wet, and the wind was blowing like crazy. But on 14th and U, there was a man in the middle of the street sweeping the leaves that were blowing all around him. I'm genuinely fascinated by this.
Now you have your answer: urban energy. Recently I had to honk to get the ladies downstairs to move out of my way because they were energetically raking leaves out of our driveway when I was trying to park there and they were so absorbed in the task that they failed to notice my car idling there.
Becky or anyone who knows-What is the line up for the tonevendor show? I am having dinner with my folks but I don't want to miss knock knock and bright ideas.

I'm equally skeptical about the promotional hubris. At the same time, though, I would much rather see lofts and than a continued unused building. Lofts are pretty trendy, I know, but I wouldn't necessarily group all loft owners into some wealthy wanna-be rich kid category either. It's possible that they're leaning toward live/work type situations for occupants... and sometimes there are financial incentives for artisans/self-employed design professional types to live in these units.
