PE at the Beat?

I heard that the Public Enemy show at the Empire sold so few tickets that they cancelled it and that PE just went and hung out at the Beat instead? Can anyone confirm or deny this rumor?

I couldn't go because I was having a discussion with KRS one about how overrated Public Enemy is.

That was an interesting conversation. Very entertaining yet somehow educational as well.

Has anyone seen this place that's going in across from Temple? I guess it was only a matter of time that Sac has a "Euro Lounge". Gads.

I suppose this will be one hang out for the thousands of luxury loft denizens who will be living within steps -- or floors -- of it.

yeah, i had a depressing walk downtown yesterday. the parlarelounge is going in where Rodney's liquors is now. joe sun's is almost empty; that was really sad to see. Morelia's Tacqueria is "closed permanently." Records will be moving soon. The comic book shop has already moved. They're trying to find a new tenant to replace Hana's market/deli; apparently looking for an upscale restaurant / music venue. it's really frustrating to see the K street mall area going to crap like this. (and by "crap" i mean trendy, boring & overpriced. if there's so much blight & vacancy, as the city and developers keep claiming, why does it seem that all the new stuff going in is replacing currently successful businesses? wouldn't it have made more sense to leave those alone & fill in around them?)
On a more positive note, El Cuco is pretty good. They're a combo with Big Kahuna's, the pizza place on 8th between K & L. El Cuco has Salvadoran food, including pupusas and a lunch buffet Weds- Fri which includes Big Kahuna items like pizza. I've only had the veggie items, but all were quite good. They'll probably get "upscaled" out once the city figures out a less pedestrian- & transit-friendly place to dump the Greyhound station and that block gets redeveloped.
