gruesome twosome

I haven't checked the Halloween blog yet. The calling procedure stresses me out. I should look to see if I can get in on any bands, though. I can sort of sing and I once played a very simple keyboard part. Hire me!

Some things about the winter and my job starting really early blow, but a cool thing is how beautiful the light is on the way in over the Causeway when the sun is coming up. Today it looked like a painting, with lots of soft pastels, and an almost-full moon high in the sky still. Then I often catch the sunset when I'm in West Sac on the way home. It's nice to have a few minutes in that wide open space where I can see the whole sky, I wouldn't get that if I was already downtown.

Wow, Yianopolous and Shkreli (I refuse to look up the spelling because I don't want to read about them) at UCD this afternoon. That's a real gruesome twosome. What with these dudes and Trump's cabinet I feel like we are living in a Batman movie sometimes, with supervillains. Only no Batman to come save us.

It's kind of refreshing not to have a horse in the race for the Halloween show. Plus, the new rule that you can't call two years in a row is a good one. What if I blow my chances of doing System of A Down next year by doing the Chipmunks in 2017? Zut alors!

Glad that a nice view dulls the edge on that commute.

I always feel a day light knowing about this thing, although I must be getting better because this time I found out about it about 15 minutes early. Not enough time to plan anything, but at this rate, maybe in four or five years.

a day late, duh

there were 32 posts on the halloween blog between 7:00 and 7:01. thats how crazy it is.
I saved my call for next year. unless someone counts Jay calling Prong for me and it gets picks. Then I'll have to actually listen to Prong and learn some songs.

Caroline, you're already on the next theme? Rage rock? Bands with Armenians?

Caroline said...

I think the theme is gonna be "Smoke Break"

DJ Rick said...

"Jock Jams"!!

Has everyone doing other Sac bands ever been bandied about?

There was another "alternate" Halloween show I think last year with Sac bands as the theme. At Colonial. That theme has way too much opportunity to go wrong!

I walked into that "Sac bands" show at the Colonial to hear the last 4 notes of the 4 eyes' set. It ended way earlier than expected

I call Bagpipe Operation.

Just got back from Bandon and Coos Bay today.
So last year this Sac alt-ween thing happened 10 blocks from my house?!?! Ah jeez....I might as well buy a minivan now.

Love Bandon!

Bandon definitely one of the best beaches.
Some really good lodging deals. Not so much good food except for sandwiches and cheese samples at Face Rock Creamery--better than the Tillamook factory--and it is only a short distance away from Coos Bay which has a few surprisingly great restaurants. And then you're right near those state parks on Cape Arago, which is one of the coolest and most drastic coastal landscapes that are so accessible.

Yeah Becky & I got a room there for cheap with a stairway down to the beach right out the door. Is it called Table Rock? That's where we were. We also got a funny Bandon wall hanging at a thrift store there.

DJ Rick said...

Yeah...Table Rock is where we stay every time we go there.
Well, we used to stay at the Shooting Star right by the highway, which is a great budget choice with lotsa dark hardwood wall panels and moss green and burnt orange everything.

We get there in 6½ hours flat if we only stop once or twice. You almost don't even need a three-day weekend if you can get outta work early on Friday. Such a great place. There are some awesome deals on vacation houses if ever there's a time to take a larger group up there.

Over by the little fishing village of Charleston, there's a motel with adjoining RV park called the Plainview which is cool. If you could book it in advance with enough people, you could totally have a music festival there since it has a big community room and they like to do events. The place is covered in murals that look like a children's book of sea creatures. The insides are janky in the best way, but certainly clean with weird but functional kitchenettes.

That whole area is underrated and wrongly maligned by Oregonians.

Oh...and did you find that record store in the town of North Bend? Seriously unexpected finds in there! (But don't tell anyone!!)
