hello?

I forgot to mix up some formaldehyde solution yesterday (you don't wanna know) so I had to come into work for a few hours today. Poor me, lucky you. Oh wait, none of you are working either.

I checked out Old Soul today and got some coffee. The owner (Jason) is super busy roasting up a shitload of coffee for the True Love, which has its grand reopening wednesday. I'm happy that it's finally re-opening. It's going to do blockbuster business.

I got a rotisserie chicken at Sampinos yesterday (btw I am eating their roast beef like it is going out of style and have yet to have even a bite of gristle, it's sooo good). That guy is so nice and his two little kids (I think) were hiding behind a rack and telling me that they sleep behind there at night. Awww, it's so cute when kids lie like that. Going to Old Soul and Sampinos made me think about how I love it that in Sac when a small business that is clearly rad opens up people fall all over themselves to support it and get to know the owner. I love hearing all kinds of types of people, in suits even, brag to their friends that they've been supporting Temple since the beginning. It warms my heart.

You know I love the freak folk and I checked out this lady and liked her songs and was so stoked to see that's she's playing at the Delta of Venus on December 19th. Delta of Venus books so many good shows!

Tonight is the Shiny Objects screening of a horror film called Graveyard Alive. Tomorrow is the party with the Bananas, Four Eyes, Megacools and someone else. Four band party? Insane.

Oh yeah, I'm also going to try to check out that new Denios-style auction at Fruitridge and Florin. And I'm going to check out that new Mexican place by Benny's for the article on late night eating. Hmm...it feels weird to write this like I'm talking to myself.

Hi, I'm at work too. My job hates veterans. That new Mexican place is the best. And by best I mean it is open really late and less than three blocks from my house. Take that Pieces! I have a new drunk eatery! I can never remember what it's called though. We just call it 'Open'.

Beckler-
The NYSE hates Veterans too, evidently. Since they are trading, I'm sittin' here watching them trade.

Will be in Sac tonight at about 9:30. My kingdom for a teleporter.

If you had seen the prestige you would know that Tesla built one in 1899. And that he looked a lot like David Bowie. I am intrigued by the Edison/Tesla feud. They were like the Paris and Lohan of their time.

Oh yeah, will you guys come with me to the Mexican place when you get here? I will probably be at scott's sewing him some ridiculous felt slippers.

At work too. Technically, no one working today is a hater. Vets day is always on the 11th, whether it falls on a Saturday or a Tuesday. I heard tell that Congress tried to make Veterans Day another "approximate Monday" holiday but the Vets pitched a fit. It must fall on the 11th. But for people, not me, who get it as a holiday, they'll get a bonus weekend day whenever the 11th is a Saturday or Sunday (or Monday or Friday, really).

Yes, we will!
See you around 9:30.

For the record, Graveyard Alive is not *exactly* a horror film. It's more of a horror-comedy-german expressionism-soap opera, and cinematography (quoting Variety) "with terrific high-contrast, black-and-white lighting schemes; compositions that are all sharp diagonals and dramatically twisting spirals; and oodles of visual references to NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and virtually the entire Alfred Hitchcock library." Oh - and with some (what I think are intentional) lip synch slips.

And the Ed Helms short on discrimination against zombies in America is only horrifying in the sense that its amazing that this kind of behavior still exists in the 21st Century - heh.

I enjoyed the taquitos. I did have to wait five minutes longer than everyone else while they heated up the oil, but it was worth it. I don't think I would even mention it, but I had been walking around and drinking in fine second saturday style for hours and was feeling desperate for food. I had a bite of Marletta's burrito to tide me over. It was good too. It had beans in it. wow, i should totally write food reviews.

The Mega Cools (Charles' band)
The Four Eyes

dancing to follow.

oh, and this isn't just to say sayonara to me, it's also a housewarming of sorts for the wonderful Matt.

Bananas are up in the air. We may still play. If not I'll see if MRM wants to play acoustic. I have a bongo.

PS Is beckler mixing formaldehyde to dip some sherm? She'll have the strength of 9 men and the cops won't be able to restrain her.

I'm going to miss The Lurch Movie to see Agression because I'm still stuck in the 1980s. I only wish it was the Angry Samoans.

The Bananas better play with bongos or I'll invite Agression over.

Nardcore!

Be sure to tell Hopie, Luba and the other mechanics that I hope they fix their rocketship. And tell those Hernandez bros. that the Rodriguez bros. (Goddamn-dipshit-Rodriguez-gypsy-dildo-punks) want to rumble.

Stupid filler about locl independant theaters.

http://cbs13.com/local/local_story_314233121.html

They really should invest in spell check.

Anonymous said...

Apparently so should I. Or invest in less brew.

Anonymous said...

Man, that band line-up IS insane! Where's the show happening? Is it a house-party by invite only or can anyone go?

Nice story about the Varsity, but there's a mistake in the article. Tower is part of a multi-national chain of theaters and the Crest is independent. They're also doing movies at the Guild again.

BOYCOTT OLD SOUL! My friend & I strolled in there to sell koozies for Second Saturday. The owner (the baker), didn't want us there. Apparently they were giving away the art for free and didn't want people commercializing off it. Fine. Instead of handling it like an adult and quietly asking us to leave, the dickhead starts YELLING at us from across the room. "NO KOOZIES! HEY KOOZIE PEOPLE! NO KOOZIES!!!" We walk over to give him a complimentary koozie for his trouble, and he continues to verbally assault us, telling us to "FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS!" refuses the free koozie, and continues to yell. It is important to note that this dickhead is making such a scene that the entire place (30+ people) has stopped talking and are now watching the scene. We can take a hint, and politely start to head for the door. With our backs to this guy, he CONTINUES to yell assaults at us until we are finally gone.

This was our first experience at Old Soul, and it will be our last. A good friend was raving about how wonderful this place is, and maybe it really is, but with ownership like this they are not welcome in midtown.

We assure this account is in no way exaggerated. This man was truly out of control. Please spread the word and NEVER, EVER EVER patronize this jerk-off's establishment.

So you're mad because you were trying to use someone's business/premises to sell your wares and the guy kicks you out.

Yes, he yelled at you and could have handled it with more tact. Big deal.

But now you want to punish a well liked local business with a ridiculous boycott because you have a thin skin.

As Jack T. Chick would put it: Haw Haw Haw.

Oh, one more thing.

Maybe the owner of Old Soul just does not like novelty foam beer cozies. I for one sure as hell do not like the things. Don't nurse a beer (especially in a silly cozy)--just drink it, dammit.

And when did it become industry standard to call them Koozies anyway? That's silly.

So don't get your chonies/panties into such an uproar.

I'm with the Butter Business Bureau on this one.

You walked into someone else's store -- one that they have to pay rent, taxes and insurance for in a magical thing called "overhead" -- trying to hawk your indie hippy wares.

One small step above cleaning windows at a stoplight.

He was probably yelling "focus!" because you were drunk and/or stoned.

Hey dude, this guy doesn't want our free koozie. He's totally harshing my buzz. They never do this at the Total Eternity Fest.

I think I'm gonna buy a couple pounds of beans from Old Soul this week as a show of support to someone who took a stand against the Koozie industry.

Down with stupid Koozies.

Wow.
I'm so out of touch. I have no idea what Old Soul is. I've never heard of a Koozie either.
I'm gonna go hit up a search engine.

KLJ,

Oh yeah. I've seen that place. I'll havbe to swing in, without my Koozies apparently.

beckler said...

What is happening to this thread? Did my blog get routed through an insane asylum computer lab(an asylum that KLJ is temporarily "resting" in)? What the fuck is a koozie? What are all you people talking about?

Aside from these questions, I will be boycotting Old Soul in my quest to take down local small business.

Beckler,
This thread is the best. So educational. I now know what a Koozie is and I know where to not get my coffee. I'll be heading to Starbucks instead. I'm sure they'll let me sell Koozies.
Does anyone else think it's weird that someone would be selling Koozies? I mean, they're not exactly an arts and craft thing. Where do you get koozies to sell.
I'm thinking boycott post was a big joke to begin with.
Well, back to my "resting."
