all right, seasoned travelers out there, answer this question: would you book a flight with a half hour connection time? obviously I'm doing it because it's cheap. the connection on the way out is in houston and on the way back it's in l.a.
and on the other hand, do you think 90 minutes is enough time to make a connection in the guadalajara airport? I've been there and I'm not confident about that.

i'm reckless and would book it if there isn't a better option! i don't know about guadalajara though!
i wouldn't but I'm kinda a weeniewuss about stuff like that, plus I have kids which makes me even more of a wussweenie in situations like that

You shouldn't do it. You'll just stress yourself out.
I like to run like mad, like I'm fleeing the police, end up on the plane sweaty and trying not to breathe too loud. But not everybody enjoys that kind of thing. It's always the furthest possible gate away from where you land.

Unless you can be zen about the real possibility of missing the flight and going to Plan B, a 30 minutes change is pretty risky. I booked a flight last summer with a 1 hour window and barely made it as we sprinted close to a mile through the Philly airport. In fact, we bumped into OJ.

I second all the above. Missing a flight is the WORST.
Being both cheap and obsessive compulsive, I'd totally obsess over a question like this. I have made some pretty close connections before, but it depends on luck/timing or if you're really lucky:
a) Airline staff will usher you to the front of any line because of the departure time for your connection flight.
b) If you can't make the flight, you can get added to the next flight or get an overnight hotel without paying anything out of pocket. Knock wood, but I've yet to pay any fees when that's happened.
Houston you should be okay making the connection to an international flight. LAX I'd worry more about what Customs & Immigration will be up to for the passengers on your flight. If there's anybody ahead of you who gets flagged, that's way more than half an hour getting through passport check and luggage/import goods inspection.
Just think though.. without a layover when will you have time to read the New York Times and listen to some sweet acoustic tunes?

hmmm....I am thinking. I am a stress case so I can't really be zen about anything. And it's a short vacay, so missing a flight would probably eat into a day of it. I think I may go for the one with the 90 minute transfer in Guadalajara cuz that's not ridiculously short at least.
Two years ago I flew back from Oaxaca and stopped in Guadalajara airport. There are two terminals and you're not always sure which one you're flying into. My flight out of Oaxaca was delayed over an hour and I missed my connection back to Sac(in the other terminal) by minutes. This led to much confusion and frustration on my part and I speak decent Spanish. I had to wait in several lines to find out how to get another flight, and was told I had to pay for it. I had to try to argue in spanish, which was nearly impossible. Long story short, avoid what looks like an inevitable missed flight opportunity.
We had only 30 minutes to connect last year in Minneapolis. We made incredible time on the moving sidewalk speedwalking and turning sideways to squeeze past a buncha middle Americans. We arrived breathless at our next flight with about two minutes to spare!
Kinda too late on the Guad thing, I too, have stumbled confusedly through the Guad airport, from one terminal to the other. Still, I think 90 minutes should be enough.
