majorly epicly triumphantly crucial shows

There are two majorly crucial shows this weekend and one of them is on everyones favorite night to see shows....Sunday night!

Saturday is the Rock The Light 10th anniversary show with the cutie-pie Mantles (pictured above) and the triumphant return of the Megacools. It's at Luigis. I haven't been there in days.

Sunday is Grass Widow at the Hub and Mayyors recently got added. Epic! Does that mean there are four bands? Too many!

Rank Xerox as in a nasty smelling xerox?

I thought maybe it was photocopying something gross or rotten.

Could someone get a hold of Virginia in the Mantels and ask if she wants to use Christine's drums? Ever since she's famous now she refuses to return my e-mail-phonecall-textmessage-twit-face-space-book-smokesignals.

Also, the MegaCools Album will be ready at the show. 8 bucks.

Hey Charles, I promise that no matter how famous I get, I'll always return your emails asking if I want to borrow Christine's drums.

Sunday show's a winner if you like to dance or flail.

Grass Widow seems like a really perfect band for so many different Sacto folks to share excitement about. Due to label affiliation and the fact that they're an all-female band just coming onto the scene while other all-female bands have been hyped to death, they get lumped in with that zeitgeist, but they don't deserve that at all. If all those other bands are C-86 worship, then this band is more like the ladies of Rough Trade Records in the late 70s/early 80s. If you dig the Raincoats....

Also, Rank/Xerox is my favorite new band of the SF Bay Area from 2009. They sound like early stuff by The Ex, or The Rondos, or especially that band from Boston in the 80s, the Proletariat. If you think they're faking a British accent, they aren't. The dude's actually British. And they're not as droll or strictly political as all that music that I compared 'em to....they are actually really fun, especially when they've got their auxiliary saxophone gal joining them.

The only other time that Mayyors played the Hub, everyone was like, "Oh, shit...that's gonna be huge!" and then the place was half-empty, and the next day, everyone said that they didn't go because they were afraid it was gonna be too crazy and packed in there.

that's true! i stayed home partly for that reason. don't fear the mayyors.

Hm. Might have to check it out if I get done with band practice early enough. I assume perhaps Rank/Xerox had some association with RANXEROX, a recurring comic in HEAVY METAL back when such things were badass.

Rank and Xerox were two companies that merged to form Rank/Xerox long ago.
