question: I know things like TV market size are involved in the move, but why did people stop going to Kings games here? It seems like this is what happened:
85-2002 the Kings always sucked but they still sold old Arco every time 2002-they got really good and stayed good for a couple of years and sold out Arco 2005 or whenever-they starting sucking again but stopped selling out Arco?
my point is they sucked for so long but people were still into them, so did people's expectations change because they had tasted what it was like to have a good team and they couldn't go back?
It was a combination of expectations and other factors, such as ticket prices, which remained among the highest in the NBA even though the Kings were consistently a cellar dweller, etc.
NM's right that ticket prices went up when they were good, and stayed there. Also, losing Adelman caused a change to a different style of play, which was not nearly as fun to watch for semi-fans. And of course losing all the stars/personalities, with none of the newcomers ever reaching the playing charisma of the earlier players.
As if I needed any more reason to hate the Maloofs, making Jerry and Grant cry is unforgivable! I think the owners basically forced the fans out in an attempt to show the NBA how much the Kings needed to be in Anaheim. Raise the prices, threaten to move, alienate the fans ans all the sudden yr teams at risk. Maloofs=Assholes
