normal post
My life is a little bit topsy turvy right now. I need some normalcy. Down is up and up is down. Left is right and right is wrong. So, to make myself feel normal, here is a post. About banh mi. This is from Huong Lan. Do you have those restaurants that you visit again and again and you know you should try some new dishes but you always want the same thing? I have a lot of those places and Huong Lan is one. Actually, I rotate between sardine banh mi and grilled pork. On this day I got the headcheese, ham and pate sandwich. I really liked it. The texture of the sliced meats was very pleasing on the tongue, and the pate added some earthy porkiness. I guess that's all I have to say.

Are you also have problems telling the difference between the rhythm and the bass? Because the rhythm IS the bass and the bass is the treble.

Have you tried the new chicken sandwich at Magpie yet? It's fried in duckfat. Woodhouse praised it so much, I had to try it ASAP. He could not have praised it too much. It is a masterpiece.
Haven't tried it. I will try to try it soon.
That is another great sandwich pic! Huong Lan is the reigning Bahn mi standard! A very satisfying and reliable constant. Just recently tried the new place across the blvd and found it to be good as well. Duc Huong maybe?
God damn do I want Huong Lan now! I'm way into the BBQ pork, tho somebody was just telling me they thought the meat was weird.

The place across the street, whatever it's called, really is good. I usually get pork or chicken because I am a wuss though the headcheese one is pretty good. I like all those mystery packages that are on the tables when you're in line, sometimes I'm suckered into buying a bunch of those. And always a Mr. Brown.
I always go grilled pork at the Lan.

Biz, I think the BBQ pork is a little weird but I also associate it with my run of accidentally ordering it when I wanted grilled pork. The Lan's grilled pork is one of my favorite things in Sac. I also like the place across the street quite a bit. On my last visit there the bread was just out of the oven & so good! That place seems to specialize in pork so there's not as much variety as Huong-Lan.
I've started trying all the bastardized fancy banh-mi that seem to be standard on every menu lately & so far I think Juno has far & away the best. I love Magpie but I can't get with theirs at all.
