weak as fuck

There's been a lot of grateful dead played around the house lately because smiller is getting ready for the Halloween show, and I must say, they are pretty weak. I want to like them, but jeez, meandering songs sung in reedy hippy voices? There are a couple of country rock good ones from American Beauty but even the best of those can't hold a candle to Gram Parson's worst song. Also, the worst day fishing is better than the best day working. Are other people practicing for this show? Or is that a secret?

Don't forget that four eyes/rtl show on saturday, and also Neil Hamburger is mc'ing the All Sketch Comedy Fest on 24th (and broadway, right?).

Sunday is the Oscars but I can't really rouse myself to give a crap so far. And then monday the very exciting show at the Press Club (yes?) with the Ohsees and Agent Ribbons.

There's also the show tonight at S & 22nd.

The Oscars are once again going to be total weak sauce, but many of us suckers will continue to watch and growl. Even the films by decent directors are pretty forgettable. "No Country For Old Men" really wasn't that great overall, but it's certain to win best pic. Really, if Tommy Lee Jones retired, would that be such a bad thing? Aren't there some other tired, old white guys who can play the grizzled sad sack?

I actually hope that Coyote Ugly, or whatever the fuck her name is, gets the award for her obnoxious screenplay, so I can finally break my Oscar addiction.

I didn't manage to get an act together, despite several false starts, so I am practicing macrame and EST therapy instead.

speaking of has anyone confirmed whether whiskey wild is indeed sac's answer to coyote ugly? i've heard rumors but then i'm also pretty gullible so...

Dani, TLJ bought the rights to Blood Meridian, so be prepared to watch his dessicated person doing lots of scalping on the silver screen next year. -- Patrone

I loved no country for old men! but coyote ugly is a lol. there is an ad for her stupid stripper book in the new new yorker so they must be reissuing it because of her new fame.

how about if we do that rebirthing therapy thing on stage for the show? like the one john lennon did. you crawl inside a blanket for five hours until you lost your mind and then birth yourself.

oh yeah, 22nd and s show tonight, mayyors, warm streams who are the other bands?

patrone-are you going to the mantouls show? what do you think of them? do you want to miniaturize them and carry them around in your pocket or is that just me?

beckler said...

the rantouls that is, i don't want to miniaturize the mantles, i want to expand them until they are 50 feet tall and have them rock out in central park

The Rantouls are pretty amazing -- have you seen them? And I've always thought the Clea--I mean, the Mantles were "wet" (the new "cool", according to SF teens). I'll get Indian pizza with you guys up the street from the KO!

PS - Tristan tells me that Whiskey Wild offers $2 shots when the train goes by!

yeah, i saw them and thought they were great, and then i heard the fevers and couldn't understand why i had never heard them before.

we're gonna go to the ohsees show in sac instead.

the intrepid sacbee reporter allen pierlioni went to whiskey wild for lunch, if you want to read about it

Is the KO near Zante's? I'm bummed that the Ohsees are the same night as the Mantles as I had the Mantles stuck in my head all weekend. I haven't seen thee Ohsees yet tho' so there ya go.

Heck with the shots I just wanna know if there's DANCIN'. Muggs, Skipper and their better halves were gonna go to WW but then shrugged it off when they found out about the cover charge.

Patrone, next time you're in Sac we should hang out on the tracks & drink brews & every time we see a train coming we'll waltz in to Whiskey Wild. First round's on me!

If you think having the Dead played around the house for a few days is bad, try living in Arcata for 19 years ...

To answer Liv Moe's question: They do have dancin'. A month or so back while walking home Safeway I passed by the place. I looked past the two non-plussed bouncers to see 10-12 cowboy hat-wearing dudes stumbling around in a circle to really loud New Country. This was at 3:00 PM.

Hey thanks for mentioning Neil Hamburger's appearance at All Sketch.
Seriously though, there ARE other great comics out there other than Hamburger.
I hope you get to come out for Weinbach the next time he comes around. He was amazing on Thursday.
And Fakesweet may have been the best performer of the whole festival. Good stuff.
Thanks again. photos up at www.allsketch.com/photos.htm
