news and review 2.0

Wow, new news and review website. It took a while to load. See what a bitch I am, always full of complaints. I never have a hard time loading the midtown monthly website. Just another reason why we're better.

I was taken aback by the level of Graswich-hating in the Bites column. I think it's clear that whoever wrote this is the same person that made the anti-Graswich comments on heckasac earlier in the week. Hating on Sacramento magazine I can endorse, but why the Graswich hate? I'm really asking. I like the way he always busted the Maloof's chops.

I thought this was some good reporting (the likes of which you won't see in the Bee!) Soooo the city is going to be paying out millions that are supposed to fund public transportation cuz Thomas Enterprises negotiated poorly in the railyard deal. Sweet.

I think KW and I agree on Stolichniy. Good to see the N&R switched to five star ratings. Smiller and I have had some discussions about how only the fancypants places can get four stars in the news and review no matter how glowing the reviews are for the cheaper places (yes, we sit around and talk about stuff like that). So Biba still gets four, though? Considering the relentless yelp slamming that Pho Bac Hoa Viet gets, it's nice to see a food savvy reviewer like KW says she eats there all the time. Me too!

I like the new website.

Everything I hear aobut the planned moving of the depot makes me crazy. It just doesn't make any sense.

Many decisions the city makes with our money I hate
but if I put myself in their place I can see the misguided logic. But on this deal I don't fucking get it. Bah.

Beckler, the person who posted the item about Graswich here and the person who wrote "Bites" are not the same person. There's more than one hater of the pint-sized cop fellater in this town, and Graswich has done plenty to piss off a lot of people, and not because of his rapier-like wit or his sparkling prose. The guy's a corrupt little weasel who deserves any public ass whipping he gets.

yeah, but they're moving the train depot on top of the depot.

so why do you hate graswich again? sorry for getting that mixed up about who wrote it, the bobby bahama thing confused me. you hate him because he loves cops? how was that reflected in his column? i didn't read it regularly enough to understand the wrath.

Took a while to load? Are you kidding me? About 1 second for me. Get rid of your dial-up. Find something real to complain about.

Well alright, she's flying to Japan. Let's talk about the Bee, Paesanos, the Heathers, the Maloofs and Natalie again.

Everyone post anonymously, since that brings out the smartest in people!

But other than that, I am looking for armadillos to BBQ next month at the Peep Off. I had no luck finding them last year.

As for Graswich (or Gaswich, as I like to call him), I can tell you for a fact that he rarely gets his facts straight. I and many other people I've known have tipped him off to stories multiple times and he has always bungled the facts. The funny thing is, he liked to actually point out the angry people who told him he got things wrong, but then, of course, he'd make fun of them or dismiss them. Other than that? Well, his tone was smug, he was obsessed with the police and the fire department, and the worse offense of all, in my humble opinion—he was boring. I always thought my hometown deserved a better three-dot columnist than this.

I still get the impression that most of the Graswich-haters have had problems with him personally. I know it's hard to like anything done by people I dislike, though there are notable examples. But, having never met the guy, I found Graswich more interesting than just about anyone else at the Bee (which isn't saying much). But at least I didn't make a point of never ever reading anything written by him, which is my policy for Heyamoto, Weigand, Walters, Creamer...
As for getting the facts wrong, I think that in just about every news story that I've ever encountered where I had inside information, there have been things gotten wrong. This has been true in daily newspapers, weeklies, magazines, fanzines, radio, television, whatever.

okay, by "examples," I meant "exceptions." but you knew that already.

Wiegand's not half-bad. Certainly more entertaining and smarter than Bob G. ever was.

who is this person reading heckasac at MIDNIGHT AT HOME who dislikes me so much that they try to bust my chops for a joke? argh. though, accusing someone of having dial-up is definitely the ultimate dis, so they got me there.

Apparently the 5-star thing is a new-website glitch. (It's still 4 in the print edition.) I must say it surprised me greatly to read of the (seeming) change on this blog.

Total BS, I am all fastest connection imaginable here at work and I can't get to any of the links except for the front page.

Oh and PS to Internet Speed Elitist. I didn't know that the internet was only for people who can afford a fast connection. Anyone who wants their web site to be used and actually helpful should play to the lowest common denominator in regards to connection speed.

they should go to five stars!!! the four star system means that only expensive places ever get the top score. not fair!

gbomb, you go, girlfriend (ah i am cringing as i type that).
