day off

What a day off I had! Morning coffee and chilling at Temple, delicious lunch at La Bonne Soupe, and snacks and a rose (I don't know how to do an accent mark on here) tasting at 58 degrees. I checked out the wine shop and it has tons of under ten dollar bottles of wine. The wine tasting was 10 bucks for 6 pretty generous tastes and we sat and drank and snacked for almost two hours just on that ten bucks. Then I bought my favorite bottle at a discount (cuz I paid for the tasting) for less than eight bucks. That place is cool.

Hot enough for ya? This weather is INSANE.

I've had two reports now about the nastiness of Tortugas, the torta place that's adjacent to Zocalo and owned by the Ernastos/Zocalo people. Smiller got a terrible torta there with the greasiest bread ever, Natalie and Jay got uberbland burritos there. I tabledived (punk!) the butt of Jay's chicken burrito and it was indeed tasteless.

What if it was a box-wine tasting? Or a fortified wine tasting?

nighttrain vs. manisshewitz. nighttrain has a delightful gasoline bouquet but I prefer the syrupy-sweet Jewiness of the Manischewitz. I picked up a bottle for my wine cellar at home, and stored one in my wine locker at 58 degrees. By the way, who do they think they are kidding with those wine lockers? As Michele said, I hope they didn't sink too much money into that aspect of the place because they are going to lose their shirts.

Biz, I agree the box wine would make it punker, however, punks will drink anything they don't need a tasting to figure that out.

For news years a couple years back-i brought a bottle of grape manischewitz to the new year`s family party in japan.I also brought a bottle of Ouzo. The mani was the bomb with the ladies--they shared cups back n` forth. The Guys tried the Ouzo and hated it.Made this crazy face like i just ate a live outopus and it`s stuck in my throat. They didn`t finish the Ouzo so when i ever i go there. They pour me a pint size glass of ouzo straight.New Years the family gets hecka drunk jabbing their finger up your butt and grappin` your chimpo(dick).Grand pa would take a half time nap from drinkin` and would continue thru the night after the nap with sake and shochuu.Yesterday four undie cover japanese cops stopped and ask me for my passport but i gave em` my gaijin card. They asked what do i live in..i said " a house".They asked about my kid--but i said don`t bother he`s japanese...Will trade manischewitz for japanese junk food..I`m tottally serious anybody want burnt soyu potato chips send me a bottle of mani..

CISCO will give you a monster headache within 40 minutes of your first hearty glug. MD 20/20, which as an expert we will call "Howard" will tell you is, "new and improved, dog." is a perfect libation for these 100-plus days. BOONES will not hurt you. T-BIRD will keep you regular.

According to consumer reports, box wine stays as fresh, if not fresher, than bottled wine, be it corked or screwtop. Why is box wine so often the object of derision? By the same token, why is the cork so fetishised? It doesn't preserve the grape better than the scew top. As for Hebrew table wine such as MANISCHEWITZ, it does tend towards CISCO, flavor-wise, only no instant headache and not as nasty-tasting.

Who is going to start a malt liquor thread?

Jason took Mike and I to a place on Franklin Blvd. called Super Tortas or something. Its right by Morants Old Fashioned Sausages. Those tortas were crazy! I could only eat half and gave the other half to Mike C who looked like he was in food ecstasy when he was eating it. The scene there is pretty crazy.
Wine lockers make sense if you own a ton of high end wine and don't know where to store it. In your car? Yes, all those crazy yuppies who come downtown to dine leave there bottles of Insignia in the trunk of there BMW's. Its not too expensive to have a room in your business place that has cubby holes with locks, little lighting and a constant temperature of 58 degrees. Wouldn't you all be happier to know that 58's wine lockers will take away business from cooperate wine lockers like Morton's and Il Forniao? Who's losing shirts?

Japan has lately hit the cheap wine craze.I can get a cheap liter bottle for 399 yen which is about $3.60 american. It`s called Sapporro wine poliare...Red and white..I haven`t tried the white..The Red is fruity almost sangria like but has that aftertaste of chemical/fortified wine that hangs on your tongue .It`s mainly used for cooking as the bums/folks haven`t figured out wine and stick to sho chuu with a bottle pint around 189 yen..and a 15% alkie haul content which is also the illegal limit you can operate a car here.I used to make manischweitz slushies those we`re the bomb. Also we just got box wine here and at kids field day the folks we`re marvelin` the wine comes out of a box.Once again trading Fried Soyu Chips,Octopus Jerky for a bottle of mani..jay san
