thank you thank you

Wow, we had like 60 or 70 people come to our screening last night! I am so touched that there are that many people out there interested in Christo, and art, and The Verge, and Doug, and whatever else brought everyone out. Doug was charming and the movies were soooo good and so inspiring. I have a whole new perspective on Christo and Jean-Claude. It brought me out of a weird, ingrained life-long skepticism that I had against them. Running Fence and Valley Curtain were so gorgeous, and how cool is it that of all the places in the world he could have put the fence, he chose Marin and Sonoma counties, which I agree are some of the most beautiful spots in the world. Wow wow wow is all I can say. Thanks Sacramento.

My wine piece is in the SNR. Thanks to all the wine pros who participated.

So the Dive Bar owner is being interviewed on Insight and just compared himself to Richard Branson in response to skepticism about a fancy downtown bar featuring mermaids.

I guess I'm a little late to this issue: Arco Arena is being renamed after scam bracelets that supposedly give you better balance?

Yeah, it officially changes to Scam Bracelet Arena sometime next month.

Thx for sharing that link ... and nice work on your wine story in the new SN&R. I read it yesterday and that's a solid round-up of local folks ... Hugh's an especially good guy to sip with, especially when he's popping those rieslings. Cheers!

At least Power Balance came out and honestly said their product doesn't work, which is better than the Kings touting this year's team as "Bigger, Badder, Better". "Here We Rise"? More like stumble.

It would be good for the Kings to have more power, seein's how they got badly out-rebounded by the Suns recently. And surely, this lineup could use more balance.

Hey, Sacto taxpayer...If you're not keen on helping to pay for a new arena, how about just a pavilion instead?

plus, this guy could inadvertently hurt the cause because he's probably going to be able to comply with the 30 minute thing so the city council may thing it's do-able rather than totally dumb. But it's only doable if you have minimal prep and the technological knowledge and ability and customer base to do stuff like tweet your location.

the 30 minute rule will burn this guy out in the end, i'd imagine. plus, what is he going to do if he has a sweet line but his 30 minutes are up? just ditch out on the dollars and move? i doubt that.

The 30 minute rule is similar to the rule in Los Angeles. The best sub-dollar tacos al pastor I've found are from a procession of trucks (including one called "La Estrella") which alternate positions on N. Figueroa and York Boulevards in Highland Park right around the 5000-5200 blocks. Basically, you know that if they're not there when you arrive, they're just changing position, and due to arrive within five minutes. According to the neighborhood folks I talked to, they've been doing this since the rule went into effect.

Another thought about Arco Arena becoming Power Balance Pavilion......considering the virtual banishment of the irrelevant Kings from national NBA broadcasts, maybe it's a good thing to have your arena's namesake be something from the "As Seen on TV" section. And if we can't have basketball wizardry on the court from our home team, maybe we can see some Fushigi ball wizardry as halftime entertainment.

The 30 minute rule only applies to certain areas within the city ... in an industrial zone, a food truck can stay for as long as need be. Look for Mini Burger to concentrate on some spots right outside of downtown ... it'll be interesting to see how this all works out.
