netflix help

Are you bad at picking movies for you netflix queue? I know I am. If you need some help, visit the website of the Criterion Collection. They put out some of the best, most interesting movies, and they always do a great job with the extra features. I just got my queue up to 25 movies just by picking from here.

I hope The Battle for Algiers is on your list.. unless of course you've seen it already. Really, f*&%ing great film and one of the best opening sequences ever.

I saw it at the Crest during the French film festival. It's intense.

no kidding! i got turned onto Withnail and I - one of the funniest and dark British "comedies" i'd never seen from the Criterion list. it's surprising what's on there.

i would've love to seen Battle of Algiers on the big screen.

I like to read my friends "two cents", that helps me fill up my que. I got one friend who has seen 1500 films on Netflix and likes to write reviews about most of them. Crazy! My email is known if anybody wants to network.

So awesome! This is going to blow my queue up like crazy. I didn't realize that Criterion had released "Forbidden Games." That and "The 400 Blows" would make for an interesting evening of reflecting on one's childhood.

Yeah, I've seen all those. Pfft -- right. Although I guess "Night and the City" and "M. Hulot's Holiday" are the ones I'd like to most be watching this afternoon. And "Grey Gardens," eternally. And yeah, yeah; not just it because it just got reborn as a musical over at the Playwrights Horizons; that's gonna happen to like a third of th' movies on that list.

Have you seen "Picnic at Hanging Rock"? That movie is insane- would be interested to get your take on it. I am pretty sure Crit. Coll. has released it on DVD. It is about these Victorian schoolgirls who go missing in this Australian nature park - its like a gothic early 1900's story filmed through a 1970's fuzzy lens.

I heard a rumor that Sofia Coppola made the Virgin Suicides based off of that movie. The fuzzy lens and girlish whimsy is there, even the Air soundtrack resembles the soundtrack in the movie.

Yeah, I could see that. Good point. It'd be a good one to borrow from; "Hanging Rock" has eerieness and atmosphere in spades. And it was back in that Australian film sorta-renaissance with stuff like "Sunday Too Far Away" and "Mad Max. And of course, all the directors departed to work in Hollywood.
