Morning downer

So in addition to the increase in violent crime Sac has experienced in the last year, the heat seems to be spurring a mini-crime wave. Five people have been shot in sac since saturday. Here's the sad story of the guy in Valley Hi. I can't find the article right now but the sheriff had a good quote where he downplayed the surge in violence by pointing out that it's usually gang members that are killed. Not this time, but usually. Way to justify it.

SRD meeting tonight, same time and place.

Here's the quote from the article:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The sergeant said that much of the recent violence has involved people who knew each other or were doing business with one another.

"Almost everything we're seeing is criminal upon criminal," he said.

"We don't for the most part have innocent citizens caught up on it. It's youth on youth violence."
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That article's at http://www.sacbee.com/content/news/story/14271652p-15082205c.html (sorry, can't do a better link).

And in the last few days someone from the Sacto PD commented that, if you except gang & domestic violence, only a few people have been murdered so far this year. Nice.

so what constitutes a "criminal"? someone with a part drug conviction? do they deserve to die or it's somehow not that bad if they do?

Well, all the cops are too busy making sure that Heather Fargo doesn't have to have any contact with poor people, who she hates.

Yeah let's all remember how there was shoulder-to-shoulder cops around city hall and the mayor's office during the WTO "riots" 3 summers ago. Meanwhile the rest of the city agencies on that block were left to fend for themselves.

the whole "don't worry, it's only the gang members and drug dealers killing eachother" thing is total bullshit. when bullets are flying in a neighborhood where innocent people and their families live, innocent people are going to get hurt or killed regardless of where some shithead thugs are trying to point their guns.

the second you allow violence in a neighborhood, regardless of who its being done to, it opens the door for more violence, and maybe the next time it won't be other thugs it will be shop owners or people in their driveways getting robbed. basically this cop is saying "we're not going to do shit until some middle to upperclass homeowner gets popped". yes, big cities and their downtown areas always have their problems, but that doesn't mean those problems are acceptable and shouldn't be dealt with and taken very seriously.

Looking at it from my slacker perspective, I can see why cops would prefer that only criminals get involved in killings, if only because that makes it easier to solve cases. The DA looks good and all around it makes the department appear professional. Criminals are in the system and most of them aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. When a killing involves any circumstances that are out-of-the-ordinary, cops don't know quite what to do, so they have to actually think about suspects differently. Just my 2 cents.
