Jamaica bound

The LCD Soundsystem movie is playing at 845 at the Crest tonight.  It's part of Launch.  Local boy Tyler Pope will be in it I imagine.  On that note, not only is !!! playing Launch but I see they are on the Coachella at sea thing which means they will be going to JAMAICA. So awesome.  They have played in so many countries. It would be fun to get a list.

I am totally fascinated by the concert cruises. The Coachella one is the first by which I have been slightly tempted. Party with bros? Jarvis Cocker in a swimsuit? Jamaican, mon? Seems awesome.

they are such hook ups scenes! you probably catch the clap just from walking gangway. gangbang on the gangway!

p.s.-"the clap" just sounded good, I don't even know which one that is

I suppose I'd play 'em if I was in a band that had the chance, but as a fan, these music festival cruises kinda reek of too much decadence to me. The reports from the "Bruise Cruise" festivals point to more massive cocaine quantities than is normal. And these reports are coming from people from NYC and Florida where their idea of a normal amount of cocaine at a music festival is already skewed skyhigh.

I would be scared of possible arrest in a foreign country, but I've heard anything is legal in international waters, even a man marrying a horse. (Simpsons joke alert)

I'm going to try to crowdsource a review I'm writing: I'm trying to make a joke about a coming together of two cultures in a dish and I want to say "best cultural matchup since..." my mind is blank, although I've only been thinking about it for 2 minutes. anybody got a doozy?

what about "ebony met ivory"

top that

beckler said...

ooh, or leather and lace?

I can let you vote later

the clap is gonerea, right?

Anonymous said...

Since Nixon went to China is the first thing that comes to mind but everybody uses that example. Have you seen Goth Cruise the Documentary? Cruises in general seem pretty awful, but the interplay between the Goths and the rest of the people is pretty funny.

the clap is chlamydia or however you spell it

(captcha "japscum" WTF)

hey-
I have plans, but THANKS for all the eggs. We've eaten all but two. I have offered to make a sick, underweight coworker a quiche, so if you have more I could use them next week. I can't really think of a better way to gain weight.

beckler said...

what about "best cultural mashup since Big Trouble arrived in Little China?" c'mon I need your help here guys!

beckler said...

I'm threatening you, this is what it's going to be if you don't speak up

beckler said...

shit, and "since" implies that it had to occur BEFORE the invention of the banh mi, and I don't even know enough history to make a joke pre banh mi.

No probs! I *should* have another dozen by mid-next-week. Have Smiller call me on Tues or Weds...
Speaking of Tyler, ALL of the recordings from Sacto's reggae golden age are available here...

(Even the Defendants! and Ground Chucks DUB(?) record!)

Since Marco Polo slurped his first noodle?

Since Parmentier did the mashed potato?

Since Gaughin got his first taste of Polynesian crumpet?

Anonymous said...

^^ JD

actually the Gaughin one might be on the wrong timeline

Anonymous said...

oops, it's Gauguin, not Gaughin

JD

Anonymous said...

I think Gaughin is post bahn mi.

Since Hannibal met his elephant?

Since Siddhartha found the Banyan tree?

Since Odysseus met Helen of Troy?

Since Sisyphus met his rock?

I like the last one. But I would.

Sac's reggae golden age begins and ends with Ruff Chicken records.

some of these are good, but I'm not sure that a rock could be said to have a specific culture. I will put it up for a vote in the morning. They voting will not be open for very long because I'm very close to finishing the review, so vote early and often.

I think you could make a case for Gauguin. French Indochina dates from roughly 1860's and Gauguin hit Tahiti around 30 years later, but you could debate how long it would have taken for the locals to create their spin on the baguette. (Anything to avoid work today!).

If pasta had to be brought from China, and tomatoes had to be brought from the New World, what the hell did they eat in Italy before all of that.

I translated all the works of Pliny (the Elder, whose name gets mispronounced like the big dog these days for some strange reason) during my four years of high school Latin, but I can't remember what he said about food and drink besides wine and olive oil.

beckler said...

I think they ate polenta a lot

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I deliberately mispronounce Pliny whenever I order it because I don't think I've ever heard anyone pronounce it with the short 'i' in beer-related speech. It's like I'd feel like I'm trying to correct everyone by making a point of pronouncing it right. It's almost like the beer is supposed to be pronounced that way even if the historical figure is not.

That booze cruise is totally my thing. If I had 1000$ to blow I'd totally do it. Seriously.

When I first saw the promo I thought, I wonder how many people are going to fall off the boat and drown.

DJ Rick said...

They couldn't have eaten polenta before the New World either.

beckler said...

In that case, I think they just ate spicy meatballs

Anonymous said...

Shannon, it's not just a grand for the cruise, you apparently need a hefty cocaine budget as well.

It's because "Pliny, brah!" sounds better pronounced wrong.

I have a feeling that Shannon could probably get some free stuff, if she wanted it (I'm not saying she does).

DJ Rick said...

Pline: /pronounced 'plīn'/ (v.i.) To supply with a Pliny the Elder or Pliny the Younger. Usage: Pline me, brah!
