Fuck you vibrio parahaemolyticus!

Vibrio parahaemolyticus Requires salt for growth. Fish and shellfish Raw and cooked seafood. Diarrhea, cramps, vomiting, headache and fever within 12 to 24 hours. Recontamination of cooked foods or eating raw seafood. No growth below 40o F. Bacteria killed by normal cooking

Worst. Three. Day. Weekend. Ever.

Five of us who ate albacore tuna at Nishiki came down with something, most likely this delightful beast. Interestingly, those who ate the Charlie's BBQ seemed to mostly have the shits, with light vomiting, while those who ate the pepperfin mostly had vomiting and chills, with slight 'rhea. I had a bite of Charlie's with my pepperfin so I got a little from column A, and a lot from column B. So I didn't go to the Four Eyes show. I made a valiant mental effort to talk myself into seeing Thieves Like Us at the Kabinet but had to concede that I was still as weak as a newborn lamb. Food sounds disgusting to me. I haven't had a drop of alcohol or coffee in going on four days. In short, I am an entirely different person. A person who is grumpy and lame. This is supposed to last as much as seven days, but I'm leaving for Mazatlan in two so I can hopefully throw a dose of Montezuma's revenge on top.

We thought that - cuz I've been reading that half of Sac has that virus - but the fact that 5 people who ate the tuna at Nishiki (at 2 different tables) got it and the one person who didn't eat it came out fine has me thinking it was the tuna. But it's nothing a Senor Frog's Mexican Burger won't fix.

Did you guys tell Nishiki they had bad fish?

Oh crud, I hope I don't get it.

Nishiki said they hadn't had any other complaints - though since most food poisoning doesn't hit til 12-30 hours after you eat it, you may not even think that's what you have or realize where you got it. If I had just eaten there alone, I would've thought it was some stomach flu.

I guess thats one more good reason I have never eaten at Nishiki.

or a senor frogs wet tee shirt contest.

So sorry to hear you were laid so low this weekend. You were missed at Kabinet last night, as I know you were looking forward to seeing THIEVES. Hope you're feeling 100% again very soon...

Take care,
J.

At Nishiki's they were probably to drunk to care.
I spent the weekend ill as well. Nasty cold. So, I feel your pain. Hope you get better for your trip. Travelin' is more fun when you're not vomiting, or when you're vomiting for the right reasons.

Tim and I had what Amy described about a week ago. Where did folks read about this virus hitting Sac?

Yeah, whatever. We just happened to know someone else who ate there that same night who also ordered the tuna & got the same sickness as us. Whatever it was, it sucked. Being right or wrong on the finer points don't make my stomach feel any better.

I blame that one, really crappy server. Anyone who's eaten there knows who I mean!

we had a really good server for once at nishiki. j. greenberg, you would have laughed if you could have heard me and smiller going back and forth on whether to go or not. he really wanted to and i would say "ok, yeah i can do it" and then i would get so tired walking to my car or something that finally said i couldn't go. instead we watched bergman's "the magic flute" which was very, very boring. but it was cool to see a real opera for once all the way through with subtitles so i knew what was going on. and you know why it was cool? because now i never have to watch one again. was it a good crowd? i'm sure the rain kept people away but i think in the summer the kabinet is gonna blow up! once you advertise your state of the art cooling system, folks will flock there.

Yeah, no matter what caused it, it sucks when you're sick like that. I got the virus version. My preschooler brought it home and the rest of us got sick a week after she did.
Just be thankful you didn't have to deal with nasty 'rhea baby diapers while you were sick. Everytime I think I want another kid, I just think of them having the stomach flu and change my mind. Best birth control ever.

I had to change smiller's diapers, so that was almost as bad. hope he doesn't get mad that i wrote this. ha! ha! now he can't get mad because i wrote ha! ha! yeah, lisa i read your post and was all like "see kids make you sick all the time and i never get sick" and then i got sick.

Adult diapers are different.

I don't know if you will be up to it, but here's my suggestions for avoiding Montezuma's Revenge.

1. Lime on everything
2. Shot of Tequila after every meal.

Bonus:

3. As many Gin and Tonics you can drink while in malaria country.

I'm sorry you guys got so sick. That fucking sucks. I felt so bad for Anna, who was going to go to Poinsettia and instead woke up puking. Anna: you missed out on driving through sleet and snow, burning a Corvair, and hangin with Chevy Chase and Holly Wood in Gabbs. It was fun and we missed you!

I know for a fact they don't take the best care of their fish, and lower grade shiromaguro(garbage scraps)are used for the BBQ. I haven't eaten there in years, I kinda like Taro's in the mall.

Oh, and the same for spicy tuna, its the baloney of the tuna.

I ate at Nishiki on Thursday night and didn't get sick. I had tuna too. (Must have just missed you guys). RM
