show tonight

I ate dinner at 33rd street bistro last night. Their salmon nicoises salad is fucking good and it's a full meal unless you're starving, for ten bucks. Not too bad. I've eaten a lot of the sandwiches and salads there, but has anyone eaten the big plates? Like the steak and stuff? I balk at the prices, but everything I've had has been good so I want to go for it. They have a meatloaf that's mix of ground lamb and pork sausage!

Tonight is Lyme Regis at G street pub. There are two oi bands playing with them. Here are there websites with music samples. Maybe the Giant Haystacks aren't oi. I must confess I have only a vague idea what oi is anyway and each time I type it it looks funnier. Lyme Regis is playing this friday at Gilman, too.

They're actually more of an 'oy' band.

I'm with DMZ. The meatloaf hecka rocks. If it isn't on the menu anymore, it should be.

I finally ate dinner at 33rd. Being a veggie and all, I didn't find their options all that appealing. I got the panini. When I ordered it, I had this image in my mind of this amazing panini I had at Osteria (sp?) the other week called "the Roma". When my order arrived, all expectations were dissolved. It tasted ok, I guess.

Niki got some personal mushroom pizza. It was ok, but I'd rather have Zelda's.

If the pizza was personal, maybe you shouldn't be telling everyone about it.

The meatloaf was on the menu last night, but it advertised two meats, not three or four. Is there a mystery meat?

I had the steak at 33rd Bistro a few months ago, and it just about melted my balls off. Besides that, it's also the best breakfast spot in Sac.

Shit, this just in from the DIY list:

I just got off the phone with Allan of the Giant Haystacks, and their
van broke down in Portland. Them, and Hardskin are waiting for their
van to get fixed, and it looks like they aren't going to make it in time.

Crap. Any suggestions? Anyone want to play last minute?

Damnit, this really makes my day.

Post back or you can reach me on my cell at (530) 304-7803.

It's okay. Our marriage counselor says that I need to talk about my personal pizzas. The best part of the wild mushroom pizza was all the goat cheese they put on it. Let's hear it for the goats! First a layer of roasted shallot goat cheese spread, then some wild mushrooms (are chanterelles wild enough for you?) diced chives and more goat cheese. Some of the mushrooms were a little too chewy and/or woody, but over all it was a nice mix of deep, earthy flavors.

I LOVE the breakfast panini at 33rd street bistro. Breakfast Panini:
Scrambled Eggs, Swiss Emmentaler,
Smoked Turkey with Herb Mayonnaise on Challah Bread. So yummy.

Giant Haystacks are actually an "artier" type band- they are really good. But they did have to cancel, along with Hardskin because their van broke down in Portland.

If any locals are interested, please e-mail me the_klingster@yahoo.com.

Thanks to whoever posted that from the Sacto DIY list. I really appriciate it.

Thank you Heckasac!

Much love,

Not sure if this is old news but the 33rd clan opened up a new place on Riverside called, imaginatively, Riverside Clubhouse. Not sure who the genius is that comes up with their restaraunt names, but the food kicks ASS at Riverside as well. The few things I've had (Shrimp & Feta tacos, Burger, Turkey Club) all slay.

They also play sexy R&B over the PA...the service is pretty ameteur and the only downside.

I like the crab sandwich at 33rd St Bistro. They used to carry RC Cola but they wussed out and now they have Coke or Pepsi.

if this was my site, 5 people would have already pointed out that i leaped on meatloaf without even reading close enough to see that you directly mentioned the meatloaf in your post. my brain sees "Bistro" and responds with "meatloaf!" and all other functions stop.

Yeah the crab sandwich is great when it's not too gooey. The chicken is tasty, too. I'll have to try the club sandwich at the Riverside. I love a good club. My favorite is at the Stagecoach on Florin.

I love 33rd Street Bistro

They are also opening a new place, Bistro 33, within a couple of months. Location is on 16th and K

I think it's going to have most of the same items as 33rd Street Bistro, at least I hope so.

The Riverside Club house is my nemesis. The Heraford house was much better. The clubhouse gave us all kinds of parking problems and tried to have a dance night that would wake me up at 1 am. The neighbors battled them and the owner/manager guy acted like a prick in every way possible. Now we have lame parking restrictions where you can park on the street any time except with a permit.
plus its way over priced.

ps. heckasac is now blocked from my work computer. sucko! i'm going to be outa the loop instantly.

I think the Riverside Clubhouse blows. It's like some really stupid person's idea of what an L.A. restaurant would be. The music is criminally bad.

Last spring, I had their grilled salmon on what was supposed to be a bed of gingery veggies. It was mushy and so sweet it was like eating dessert salmon. Blech. And the service was beyond amateur. I think our waitress has been recently disinterred from a crypt across the road.

Spend your money on the steak at Bistro instead.

I've never been to the Riverside Club... way too much of a Hummer-drivin-prick palace ambiance, plus I'm still in mourning over the Hereford House. The bartender at HH was a dead ringer for Mrs. Roper from Three's Company, right down to the colorful sheer mumus she wore EVERY NIGHT.

Oi! Oi! Oi!

I haven't been to an Oi! concert in a long time. But it was a damn good one. Especially when the Nazis and SHARPS started fighting. That shit's hilarious.

Also, I like the 33rd St. Bistro. Especially the garden vegtable fritatatatata.
