Kels!!!!

I am in such a state of delirious shock after the R. Kelly concert that I can't even write about it yet. Let me just say that if you are at all a fan and you were not there you should be kicking yourself. And please, no cracks about the man. That show last night was phenomenal. Chris Macias already wrote an annoyingly snarky review (which is crazy, cuz the show didn't end until eleven last night). Yeah, Kels may have fucked around a little bit and had some fun but that true fans loved it. And of course we couldn't help but laugh when he sang that jungle love song. He said that he just wrote it recently while he was stoned and it was supposed to be funny. Why can't anyone anywhere ever understand that he knows that he is funny? He was cracking up and relaxed all throughout the show. AND Macias is wrong about saying that no one would have missed the DJ interlude and the dance numbers. I would have missed it, and most of the crowd would have, too. It's pretty common during hip hop and R&B concerts to play current hits to get the crowd pumped up and dancing, and everyone was screaming to see him dance. Aahh! That review is making me mad.

Liebrock had a nice little interview with Rose Melberg on friday that I didn't catch until today. Speaking of the Bee, I know that people always complain about website re-designs, but the Bee's really reall sucks. And now it's really slow to load and I'm always accidentally clicking on something that takes me somewhere I don't want to go. But back to Rose. That show was really fun. I liked the Moore brothers a lot. Their songs were a meandering but I am a sucker for a pretty voice or two. And speaking of pretty voices, Rose sang with her mom and it was rad! Such close harmonies. Her record is really good, too, although with the demise of Tonevendor you probably will have to mailorder it if you didn't get it at the show.

That's rad that the concert was good! It sounds like the crowd was loving it. I bet his voice sounds really good live. Does it?

Sweet! I'm so glad you went Becky!

Becky- Ok, totally off topic but you gotta go to "Taste Of Britan" which is down the street from Pattaya, on the same side of the street, in another mini mall. I've been holding out and I'm ready to come clean. I've been going there since 86 and I just went a couple weeks back with my mom. It is exactly the same as it's always been. I love it so much I could scream. Think about if your grandma was a sassy lass from England, and she married an American GI and then moved to North Highlands and made damn fine fish and chips and mushy peas and white toast and a honest pot of PG Tips tea!@!!!!@!! They used to be in another mini mall between their current location and Pattaya, but back in about 89? this person committed suicide by driving their car into what was formerly the town's best Goodwill, located in the same strip mall, and it started a big fire and burned most of the mini mall down. Jerk. But seriously, if you like real English grandma food, you gotta go there! (and that russian place mentioned in the N&R review of pattaya is good too, so is the Arbat deli next door)

We should go! It's really a shame that all the thrift stores are gone from that area now so that you have to drive all that way just for the meal. Although you can hit up the pussycat theater before or after.

They aren't all gone. I've got a good route for you:

Early Saturday- Go down 80 to next time, which is good to me, then go down auburn to madison and turn right, go down to hillsdale and turn right go to that purple heart, which is sometimes good, then get back on hillsdale going back the way you came, take a right on madison, take another right on watt and you are in food zone after hitting two thrift shops. PS, yard sales in the oldschool NH neighborhoods north of the airforce base are generally a wealth of goodness. It seems like everyone brought back weird shit from being stationed overseas.

I think I will need you along to navigate this route.

Oh yeah, and Michele, he has the voice of an angel. He sang acapella a lot, which was a treat.

Why did Chris Macias even review this and what the fuck did he expect from an R. Kelley concert? R was absolutely amazing and hilarious. I was floored by his accapella and I thought he did a really good job of mixing things up. The show did not get boring, his back up singers were fresh, and his band was tight. AND HIS VOICE WAS AMAZING! The jungle song was so obviously humorous. Yes, Chris Macias, it was a joke. When he rhymed, "You pusssy's wetter than a rain forest, I'm gonna be your sexosaurous," he was joking. I know, I'm sure Dave Matthews is probably alot more funny, but I guess I'm just a sick, pervert and a stupid fan for enjoying real entertainment from an insanely gifted songwriter.

other highlights: the medley of red caroet (pause, flash), step in the name of love, and happy people that ended with balloons coming down, all of the crew coming out and dancing, and r.'s three little kids (so cute) coming out. R. hugged and kissed everyone, popped champagne, and gave the bottle out to someone in the crowd. we were so lucky to be the last city on the tour and he said we were the loudest!

also, he did this ongoing skit where he pretended that there were some authorities backstage telling him not to curse or "rub his area" so that the crowd would be like "fuck that, do what you want!"

another one: during "sex in the kitchen" he pointed out a lady up in the balcony who was, in his words, sexy and big, and sang for permission to come into her kitchen. this lady went crazy! it was really cute.

dude! right now? i am soooo jealous.

did he do any of trapped in the closet?

beckler said...

yeah, he acted out parts 1-3 while lip syncing (the only part of the show he didn't sing live) in front of a fake closet. it was one of the weaker moments, but the show was pretty action packed so it was nice to have a little break.

oh my god i thought that lady was gone pass out she was screamin so loud, "do you all see that he's talkin about meeeeee, oh my god he's singing it to me!!!!"
but then i thought i was gonna pass out singin "i don't seeeeeee
nothing wrrrrrrong, with alitttle bump and grind" with the man himself. i had serious goose bumps all throughout the show. the funniest part was when he sang feelin on your booty in the opera style, my row was loosin it. and then at the end when he was holding it on boooooooooooooo while he was flippin thru the sheeet music like he lost his place
and couldn't find teeeeeeeey...shit i new he was a musical genius but i had no idea he was comic genius too!

Mr. Showbiz, Becks and I both agree that next Halloween you have to be R and wear a light up costume! That was sick when he first came out and the only thing you could see was a lit up sillouette...

Regarding "Mr Showbiz:

Did you know that there was a weekly back in the 80s (sac this week, maybe?) which featured a column by Mr Showbiz whose real name is Greg Carr. Things haven't been going to well for him these days. He is a "permanent camper," but way back when he saw himself as the epitome of hepcatitude. Weird to see what happens to folks from the stoned age.
