S.R.D.!!

The meeting was great last night! Really energizing. We decided on a name: Defense of R. Kelly Society or D.O.R.K.S

Psyche-We have a temporary name-Sacramentans for Responsible Development. We are going to vote on whether we want to keep that as the name next week. We are also drafting a charter and voting on it next week. The meeting was great because we were all on the same page about what we want for downtown. The meeting is going to be the same time and place next tuesday, so please email me if you need to know where and when. If you couldn't make it last night don't let that stop you from coming next week so that you can vote on the charter. This group is not about guilt if you can't make it to every meeting. Everyone is busy but we all have an interest in preserving and improving the downtown area. We are also going to be creating a yahoogroup within the next day or two, so I'll give you info about that.

Anyone who was at the meeting who would like to throw their two cents in about it please do. I really can't spend much time posting about it today.

The alkalai flat/mansion flat neighborhood workshop was interesting. If you want more info on what the plans are, I could post here or maybe just blog about it on myspace.

One defining chararcteristic of the planning, which was hinted at by a perky woman who was part of the workshop was the FUCKING ARENA. It wasn't so obvious, but she slyly mentioned it when requesting feedback from neighbors. And the architect used Melbourne as a template mentioned two different arenas. I asked him how Sacramento compares to Melbourne regarding arenas, if Melbourne already had one before the new one was built and how local residents felt about having a 60,000 seater right up their noses. I got a non-answer.

I'll post a more detailed report either at my yahoo group or myspace or, if Ms Sack wants, I'll email it to her. (whatevuh.)

Ed, why don't you post about it on myspace and then link to it?

Pardon me if I'm asking about something already in the works but...

Is there anyone working on procuring a web domain and creating a web page for this?

I'd be interested in helping with that if it's needed.

We talked about that a little bit at the end of the meeting. It might be something we would be interested in. You should come to the meeting next week if you can.

I'd really like to. I sent you an email this morning with an alternative address that shouldn't toss you in the spam abyss. :)

Damn it. It'll have to wait til tomorrow, since I don't have their literature. I do have something to say about it, but want it to be more than just generalities or a rant about the conspiracy to build a new arena.

Not that I want to come off as paranoid, but did anyone else see today's metro section? Graswich had a bit about Steinberg signing on as counsel for the Maloofs to study the feasibility of an arena. Not so bad alone, but the way Darrell was quoted made it appear that he believes that a new arena is a foregone conclusion. If true (and these workshops are just CYA window dressing) that is truly and certainly FUCKED. (man!)

There'll be more on the blog and I will link it here.

But they've been talking about an arena that way for years. They still have to put a sales tax before the voters and unless the Maloofs pay for the lions share, I think the voters will reject it. ESPECIALLY because the entire county has to approve it. What the fuck does Isleton care if we have a new arena?

The yahoo group site is up and running. I'm the owner/moderator for now, only 'cause I happened to be the one who volunteered to start it. But Becky if you (or anyone else) wants to take it over, just say the word.

s_r_d@yahoogroups.com

("Sacramentans Against Fucktards" was already taken, so i chose "s_r_d" instead...)

Argh!

I'm so frustrated that I had to miss the meeting, but I was working late to finish a show that aired tonight. It does my heart good, though, to hear that people are so fired up that you're planning on having a charter by next week! I'll do my damnedest to make it to the next meeting...
