Wow. I'm very impressed by this article in the Bee on Kurt Spataro. Interesting, well written. It's almost like an article you would see in the read food section of a real paper. Strike that, it's better than an article in the Chronicle, I think it rivals a NY Times food section article. I guess the metastasizing growth of Sac will yield some excitement. I plan to check out this restaurant sometime, maybe soon.

I'll go with you if you want company. I've been dying for Sac to get a good Italian place.

if you guys go, do some recon on the site next door at the old cap g/beer's books site. some asian restaurant calles mahjong and a night club called the park lounge are supposed to be up and running in the next few months. i'm worried it's more paragary's bullshit but i could be wrong. that said, maybe the food at spatarro will be good? the inside is very fancy looking that's for sure.

I do agree that it’s a very good article, but I'll let you guys try it first and then let me know how it is.

I know it's already be asked a million times, but how come all these "upscale" (i.e. expensive) places are popping up everywhere in downtown? I'll put money down on a bet that says this place will sport valet parking, making parking in that area 10 times worse than it already is.

I need to quit my job and open up a cheap, "Greta's like" operation downtown. Too bad I won't know what the hell I'm doing.

I'd like to point out that the restaurant next to Beers is actually called Ma Jong & has a picture of a chinese woman who is supposedly Ma Jong. So bad it's almost good. But not quite.

Sounds like the perfect chance to get some spray paint and change the "J" to a "D"

miller,

i must have blocked out the play on words. i've glanced at that sign a few times but i guess i didn't want to see its true colors.

I wish some Greta's style places would open up, too. I guess Dad's is the last place that opened that I would place in that category, but it's another one of those places with limited hours, so I don't ever eat there.

Did anyone else note how weak Darrel Corti's praise for Spataro's was? I am gonna order that homemade salami, though.

Ma Jong and nightclub next to it are owned by the dude who owns The Rage nightclub.

Before Beers moved, my joke was that they were turning the place into one of those Medieval Times restaurants.
