I wasn't even going to do a post because I have work to do, but I was so stoked on everybodys comments while I was gone that I want to. I think this blog works better when I'm not around.
I didn't go to that show at on the y last night, but smiller did and he absolutely raved about Fuckwolfeyeshamburgergetonthegroundandrollaround. J.K. he thought they sucked but he liked the other two bands, a band called Yikes and JP's band.
June's blew my mind and filled me up to the point of no return. Whatever that means. You citizens of Sac who can get to Junes sometime between the highly inconvenient hours of 8am and 2pm and who would like to just eat one meal to fill you up all day, go to Junes as soon as possible! I am now All About Japantown and will be making a tshirt that says that soon. Speaking of tshirts, OK I already told this at the bbq last night so just skim if you were there, but yesterday I saw a somewhat tweaky guy on a BMX bike who had the look of someone who would ask you for spare change or a cigarette but he had on a homemade tshirt that in giant lettering said "NO SPARE CHANGE, NO SPARE CIGARETTES". Everyone has a thing, and this was that guys thing I guess.
KW reviews the Pakistani restaurant that is now in the space of Bravo (RIP Bravo and RIP piano playing guy at Bravo). I hope to go there soon.
Speaking of RIP, something is up at Taka's. I guess it is closed due to a dispute with the owner? This came out of the blue and I'm really bummed because I just started eating there recently and it's a quick walk from my house. So is Kamon, but I don't like Kamon that much. This sucks.

ditto on taka's. the word is something about a dispute over earnings. i guess rent was supposed to be pro-rated on how much money the restaurant brought in. they were fudging the numbers in order to pay less to the landlords and got caught. at least that's what kristy told me.
Dragonfly has a great happy hour from 3-6 where you can get $2 tekka or kappa maki rolls and nigiri. House wines, beers and sake bombs are also $2. There's other food and drink offered for $9 and under.
I love Lou (Mr. Taka's) and if Lou was fudging the numbers to pay less rent, I'm totally ok with that. I'd like to believe that the landlord is somehow trying to rip Lou off. If I were rich, he would be my personal chef and life coach. Hope everything is ok over there!
Beckler- what did you eat at June's?? Can we talk about the macaroni salad? Isn't it the best thing ever? I like beef teriaki or the special "japanese breakfast" that isn't on the menu. It's a sweetened rectangular thin omlette with a bowl of rice and regtangles of toasted nori.
When are you going to give some love to Wakano Ura?
Ella
ok, rectangle.
ella
that macaroni salad is fucking magic.
-natalie.
So, is anyone as excited as I am about the name Quincy Dooby? If this Kings thing doesn't pan out, he can always join Rock the Light.

Osaka Ya's snowcone window is featured in Sunset magazine this month. It's a photo of little kids all eating them and a blurb on what they serve.
Beckler- I tried a new delicious thing this weekend: bacon wrapped dried plums. (it sounds better than prune) They were SO GOOD. The aforementioned Sunset mag features bacon wrapped dates. Sounds good too. The boss recommends bacon wrapped chicken livers, which sports the unlikely name of "Rumaki".

i'll be going to wakano ura sometime next week. it will be in my article, too. I think that thing with Taka's rent being adjusted according to profits sounds really schiesty (if that's even a real word). Is that legal? Plus, it has been so hot in there lately and I heard it was because the landlord wasn't fixing in there. Where are all those sexy young servers supposed to go? What about the kabuki makeup girl and the girl with the 69 tat on her arm? Who will employ them (answer: any other sushi restaurant in town)?
I got the bacon royal at Junes and Scott got the wienie royal.
Wienie Royal (or is it Royale?) is always going to crack me up.
I was unaware of the existance of Mr. Quincy Dooby, but man! At least his mom didn't name him Chauncy. I hope he has a lot of brothers.
Ella
I love that it's "Royal" but we've just been saying "Royale" forever. The dish commands it!

i did really like june's macaroni salad. and the teriyaki tofu was also good. but, man, i got to the last third of that meal and was hurting. i wanted to take a nap afterwords and didn't have an apetite for the rest of the day.

So my attempt at a garage sale was a gigantic failure, guess nobody in this damn town reads. So I still have a gigantic box of Dean Koontz, Anne Rice, and John Saul, plus random sci fi. Since I've resolved to be rid of them I'll gladly pass them onto loving homes free of charge. Let me know.
Commercial property leases often have a clause which states that a tenant must pay a portion of their profits to the landlord.
Last month I helped an Old Sac landlord revamp his lease (the weird things that stay-at-home moms do for money, eh) and his lease agreement states that if the tenant turns a profit in excess of $1 million per year, the tenant must fork over a certain percentage of that profit. It's totally legal and very common.
Also, the issue with the air conditioning,or whatever else you may have noticed, might have something to do with a conflict Taka's has with the landlord. In the leases I looked at, I saw a lot of language in there that states that it is the tenant's sole responsibility to fix these things and that the landlord can come down really hard on the tenant if these things aren't taken care of.
I love Wakano Ura. The waitress is like an asian Renee Zwellinger. I have never gotten the Chinese lunch, just the Japanese. 60% of the time I get the kaki fried (oyster). The all you can eat salad bar is amazing, I love their dressing and the fried wonton, especially together. The meal comes with one item, rice, soup, 3 piece avocado roll and an orange slice. Add a pot of green tea and it's a little over 11 bones for 2 lunches.

Scheisty is definitely a word, and it can also be spelled "shysty," as in shyster (a dishonest lawyer).
the same thing goes on over at Tower Cafe. it seemed ridiculous to me too, but it does sound rather common. i wonder if the whole fork over your profits bit is just a CA thing?
and double the Japanese lunch from Waksano. and the salad bar with all you can eat edamame.
The Asian Rene Zellweger! That's it! It's been bugging me.

Man, we ate there this morning and are sorry to say that we thought the macaroni salad was disgusting today. An off day perhaps? It didn't taste like anything.
Yikes/Fuckwolf show ruled last night... hey! where the fuck did everyone go? seriously, we were all like "wow, there's actually about 40 people here!" then everyone split after Switched On Vultures, leaving the show at 10pm to the 10 regulars in the "over-thirty" crowd. anywhoo, that's typical and fuck everybody.
Fuckwolf had a trippy, psychy fuzzed out dub thing going with ripper guitar guy in a Pippi Longstocking wig. kind of like what Tussle might have been trying to do, but never did (but aren't those Chris Johanssen covers pretty). Really liked it, a show with them in SF and with a packed, amped crowd would be ruling.
Yikes were great. Yeah OK they borrow a little from Woodhouse and the Seattle camp, and even kinda stole JPs Sexy Prison vocals, but they added a Screamin' Jay Hawkins late 50's novelty rock n' roll thing to it too. The album is really noisey, and they added these bites of a yelling audience (from various Frogs shows) to make it into a fake live record. I think if Woodhouse or Weasel got ahold of them production-wise, they could get an amazing record together.
Switched On Vultures - hot shit, there's some really good stuff in there. don't know why it seemed weird all those dudes were in a band together, but there were some really impressive moments. Did Mario's parents show up? Did I yell something about eating pussy while trying to toss back a jello shot right in front of them? Sorry about that dude.
OK, so M. Dunne has an update of Taka's on his weblog. Swiped from the page:
<<"Our landlord has made it so difficult for us that we have decided to move on to another location," says signs posted on the windows.
The family is looking for another location. Sushi chef Naoyuki Shiraishi, who joined Taka's after a stint as opening chef for Tamaya Sushi & Grill, also is looking for work, though he's indicated he'd like to rejoin the Homs if the family finds another place within two or three months, says Hom.>>

That is all...
What REALLY sucks about no Taka's is that place has (had) the cutest wait staff in the city (barring Los Jarritos, circa 1997).

Who would have thought that leaving a bunch of books on the front steps and splitting would fail?

I just liked that "guess nobody in this damn town reads" because no one bought the goth collection.
hey, KW must have taken my advice about the Bledsoe's hot dogs

Los Jarritos, circa 1997 is documented in the history books as the Golden Age of Pepperpots.
Dear Los Jarritos,
Please bring back Pepperpots. Por favor.

I used to laugh everytime I used the pot at Dave's and there was the same goth novel on the back of the toilet written by Poppies Bright. I wish I could remember the title. The thought of a goth reading on the crapper seems really funny to me.
Wakano Ura! Wakano Ura!!!!!!

Kaiser:
That was one of my co-workers and his wife, not my parents. Dude and his wife made it a point to check out the Vultures' set (after catching a flick) on their only night without the kid. You know how it is, so it's awesome that they came out.
I think a couple more co-workers might check out the D.A.M. house show on July 14, which is rad. I couldn't be happier to have them there.

Wow, that's too funny! The image I'm conjuring of a sullen goth straining to pinch one off whilst reading Poppy Z. Bright makes me snicker. So Smif, how odiferous is it when a girl goth stinks up your loo? You need to tell her that's so undignified.

That's the real reason I threw her out. Goths don't shit.
I didn't care about her goth friends taking my anti-seizure pills and leaving what they didn't take scattered around the kitchen, drinking all my booze, leaving broken glass around the apartment, while having an all-nite graver (goth + rave) party when I'm out in Kentucky burying my grandfather.
No, that's not why she got the ol' heave-ho. I just don't want Goth Shite in my Water Closet.
About Pepper Pots At Los Jaritos:
I was just talking with my friend who is temporarily near Los Jaritos and mentioned the paucity of PPs there nowadays. She said that those girls sure started out cute, but now look at 'em. Says they're the same, only not the same, if you catch my drift.
