Children of men

Thanks so much Jake for the rec on Children Of Men, which I probably wouldn't have seen if you hadn't praised it so highly. It is the most bad ass action/sci-fi movie that I have seen in years and there were quite a few parts that made me cry. It's so fucking exciting!

The other excitement in my weekend was waiting in the sizeable line outside Cheung Hing on sunday so that I could get the dim sum at its freshest. The giant bao steamer had just been pulled out and everything was steaming hot.

Isn't it great? I haven't been able to think of anything bad to say about it. The closest I came to a criticism was thinking that in 2027, in a world of massive political turmoil, they would probably be driving more electric cars. I've since decided that this may not be true, and, even if it were the inaccuracy would be worth it for the single greatest, most exciting push start in film history.

My only problem was the "BLADE RUNNER OF THE 21ST CENTURY!!!" reviews. That and the vague mission of the Fishes and they're uncanny ability to track down Clive Owen. And the soundtrack... seriously what was that shit? Crappy covers of Ruby Tuesday? Huh?

A+++++ for action, gore and amazing camera work.

the soundtrack is not so bad if you compare it to other action movie soundtracks. yes, the ruby tuesday cover was annoying, but it ended with that rad john lennon song. my big problem with it was the sage buddhist middle-aged white lady midwife with dreads but mostly because i was seeing it with my mom and i knew my mom would think that lady was cool (she did).

Great action/production design/cinematography, good performances, weak screenplay. B+

saw it this afternoon, was gonna review it on my blog, but hell i might as well do it here, more readers.

i agree the cgi infant was not good.

(spoiler alert)

db comment about the weak screenplay is true, but this movie really belies the notion that the screenplays are integral to the art of the cinema. Cinematically, the movie ended when the miracle was revealed to the world, which for a few momemts stopped the hideousness of modern war. The movie had nothing to say after the rpg kicked up the fighting again, but the movie had to go on another ten minutes to meet the demands of the screenplay, which always needs a definite beginning, middle and end.

By the way, Theo's death scene was the only thing that reminded me of blade runner.
