have I reminded you that there's a show tonight

I guess I've had 1600 posts (according to the new version of blogger), and only 1550 of them have been bullshit. I feel dumb about going off on that post yesterday, but I still stand by my statement that Ray Kerridge is a douche, I don't care if that's below the belt.

I'm going to Whitey's Jolly Kone for lunch. I plan to get a burger and some type of shake. Any suggestions? I am trying to start early on my West Sac research for the Midtown Monthly march issue, which is on West Sac. I also want to try this place, this yelp is the first I've heard of it, and this guy is my favorite yelper.

You know the new yelp trend that I hate? Newbies flooding the new reviews section with a trillion two line reviews. It's cool you're excited about joining yelp but please don't clog it up with your reviews of every place you've ever been to. She's just an example, there are a few people doing it.

I tried to do a comment but it didn't work.

Anyway - I posted a list on yelp of some places I tried while working in West Sac.

Also A couple of places I wish I had tried :
Cafe Vienna
Grand Central
River's Edge

Some decent places not on the list:
Mongolian King
Sal's
Vince's

I hate:
The Pickle (All-Day Cafe)
Emmas
Baker's Square

Oh and Whitey's can take forever so I recommend that you call in your order if you know what you want.

The Pickle - bane of my existence for 6 long years!

Sal is my new boyfriend. Take Miller (for reasons that will become clear) and get at least one fish taco. You will not be disappointed.

Yeah, there are places that take a while, and then there's Whitey's. How was the Hot Chihuahua?

I didn't get that but Jeff got the deep fried burrito. Watching the workers at whiteys is unreal. It's run so inefficiently. I watched a lady stuffing fries into a tiny bag one at a time!! I was about ready to kill someone to get a burger.

Whitey's is right across the street from Westgate Yard--killer trainwatching to be done!

incidentally, I have to share this awesome shot from the SAMCC archives...perfect for the Pabst-swillers out there.

Wburg--
I love Trains!!!I wish i knew that..Once I tried to take a commuter train from Kumamoto to Tokyo.I started on the first train in the morning in Kumamoto.Got thrown up on by a Salary man who ate Natto(fermented Beans)in Kitakyushu in which i was washed my self off with sake.I made it thru the drunks in Osaka and got kicked off the last train near Kyoto in freezing weather.I made it Tokyo the next day around 1pm but got on a express around hamamatsu..jay

jay: yeah, I am a big train nut. I volunteer at the railroad museum, am building a model railroad in the basement, and, oh yeah, I wrote a book about Sacramento's streetcar system. It was kind of deferred for a long time but it came back with a vengeance a few years ago.

A very nice show. Loading the CD & EP i bought at the show into iTunes now, for what seems to be perfect bicycle riding music. Thanks for the tip!

wburg--
We have two steam trains in Kumamoto. One is called Aso Boy which is outta service but the gov`t might put some moo-la into fixin` it up.The other one will hopefully start running in the spring to hitoysohi. The conducter on Aso Boy would dress up like a cowboy. The crew served Bud/Coors in western outfits and country music cranked over the pa system. The Train Buffs would show up along the route for photo ops..I`m heading to Oita..Where can i get your book besides Amazon???

jay:

From the Arcadia Press website, and the Powell's Books sales site. Arcadia normally only does retail sales in the town that the book is written on, or nearby: the only retail spots outside of Sacramento are the Western Railway Museum at Rio Vista Junction and a train hobby store in San Francisco that specializes in streetcars.
