breaking the tripe barrier

does anyone out there like menudo? i want to get into it, but i'm afraid. I've never ordered it. if you like it, where's your favorite place to get it?

also, are g and j balls back from ireland? what was the food like. gballs wrote something on the indiechicks about a lymph-containing blood pudding she had?

If you find you can't handle the tripe, I can send you the recipe for my vegetarian version.

La Placita on Florin is the best in Sac and perhaps even all of Northern California.

It was black pudding, which was oat-y and phlegm-y. I also tried the white pudding, which is black pudding (ground meat and grains, kind of bland) without the blood. Um, yuck. You may have liked it, being a more adventurous eater. Jam-dog liked it OK, but not as much as candy.

TRIP FOOD REPORT:

Highlights: aforementioned candy, curry chips, carvery lunch, stuffing sandwiches, club drinks, tea, red lemonade, sausage rolls, kebab, candy, guiness, candy, candy

Lowlights: breakfast sausages, Cadbury Snack bar, ploughman sandwich, mayonnaise on every-fuckin-thing, some crisp flavors.

How low can you go-lights: Black and white pudding (g), mixed doolan (j)

La placita you say? What does it have for a girl who doesn't eat menudo?

Hey there Beckler,

Love the site. In fact, I just posted your link on my site, www.SacUnitedSoccer.blogspot.com

Please do the same if you would be so kind.

Thanks!

oh yeah, and niki, i would definitely love to see your vegetarian menudo recipe!

i have another question-is pozole always made with pigs feet? if so i had no idea that's what i've been eating all this time.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the Mixed Doolan plate was a low-light, in fact I ate the whole thing, which was probably more of the problem, also it wasn't candy. I also had fish and chips made with smoked cod which was so good it also made me a little sick. Mostly ate sausage rolls out of the hot cases in stores, Guinness, and candy. Also, for the record I will say that of the three different kinds of sausage on my breakfast plate, blood pudding was the best. We took lots of food photos so we can show you.

La Placita also has the best pozole in the greater Sacramento area too, if guts aint your thing. It's serious good Mexican breakfast and I hear the owners are "down with the clown."

so you're saying they'll bust a nut in my soup? or that they serve faygo?

Garibaldi's on Howe & Alta Arden (right behind Arden mall) is similar in some ways to La Fiesta, but it's definitely a few notches above. They specialize in seafood and while their fish tacos are good, the 7 Mares dish is awesome. Also, they just opened a great mercado next door that has really good meats and cheeses. On Sat. or Sun., I can't remember which, they have the big BBQ going and you can buy carne asada to die for.

I made a note of it.

I'll also vouche for the awesomeness that is La Placita. That place can't be faded as far as pozole and menudo goes. It's the closest you'll get to the real deal cooked lovingly by your tia or abuelita. Note that La Placita only serves menudo and pozole on weekends, so hurry up and get down there gringos and pochos.
